Does MPC 2000xl read standard PC .wav files

from floppy drives.

if so how quick is like a 'kick' and then a 'snare' and 'hi hat' gonna take to load.

Also when i say WAV i mean just the standard pc WAV files. Not Akai ones.

WAV is WAV

Theres no set time for kick, snr and hat load up times as different samples are different sizes.

Its kinda quick....It wont kill you....Its the real samples that take a week (if they fit)...

Obviously the faster alternatives work a treat.

we had a busted 2000 xl but i never really got to use it with the loading process.

As you know i have the MPC 1000 right now...very happy indeed.

but my brother wants to get the 2000xl so that he can use it with us in the studio.

all i wanted to know was that if we were to spend the basic £679 from a UK store...

Is the unit workable straight out the Box with only the 2 mb ram and only the Floppy Drive...

for like 2-4 Bar drum Loops (only Drums) with a few WAV samples like a Kick, Snare, Hi Hat, Shaker, and a couple of others sounds.

How much will 2mb ram and a floppy disk allow me to do in your professional opinion?

i would appreciate your feedback.

There are NO proprietary Akai WAV's. Load the PC WAV 16bit 44khz, you change load various samples rates and play around with them but stay at 16bit.

2mb is enough to load a few kicks, snares, hihats and other drums/percs that have similiar quick decay.

Remember though memory is DYNAMIC, meaning EVERYTHING is done and held in RAM. ANYTHING you load and and your WORKSPACE is dependant on RAM. IF you load 2mb of sounds then you will have no room to create a seq, PGM, or anything else..

Be easy on the loading of drums and it might work out for you..

In my "professional" opinion, I'd suggest you let you bro use your MP. :wink:

it'l work out the box, I jus think £600+ is a bit much to spend on a machine of its capability just to put together 2-4 bar loops.

You can live with the floppy drive....for a short while. For the time being, a 10 pack should do ya

2MB or ram is tight tho. 2MB is around:

(20sec. mono or 10 sec. stereo) - You'l feel the strain when you want to start creating programs etc

I have tried nearly every program out here to try to convert standard .wav files from my PC to be used on my MPC2000Xl & so far NOTHING has worked! Surely there has to be a way to convert standard PC based .wav files into MPC readable .wav files

it could be that the converter is adding data to the file... that is why i suggest sampling it into the mpc... it takes a few seconds and its done.

sure there are plenty of ways to convert them...one way is audacity.

use audacity.

please keep it to one thread. just trying to help you, but consider that with each new thread you bring up, you basically set yourself back to 0 and nobody can help you cause nobody knows your history. ive got ideas on how to help you but yer not going to help yerself by asking the same question over and over again. we've already been trying to help you in the threads you created so lets keep it there. yer gonna get even less help if the mods come around and lock all yer double-posted threads.

It helps how you are having issue with importing WAV files to 2000XL. Can you tell us what error messages you get?

Having said that, this is common culprit:

Make sure that there is no image (Jpeg) embedded to the converted WAV files.
I had issue with WAV files from Ultimate Breaks & Beats DVD / CD compilation; each WAVs from the CD had Jpeg image embedded (image of the LP jacket), and I had a hard time exporting the WAV files to Electribe, even after chopped up and converted sample rate to 3.3KHz from 4.41KHz, because embedded data with was still in the WAV files, even after all the truncation and conversion.

How do I find out if there is something else embedded in the file(s)? Also what software did you use to burn your wav files to cd? The error files i'm getting are in the type screen on the MPC are ???? as if it doesn't recognize the cd that's in the player. & when I burned the cd as a data file I got the error message of can't read file, can't open file, wrong type of wav file.
