I've never banged the pads of any other MPC than the 500. But when I first got it (as a total newb to MPC's), that shit would happen all the time and I thought it's coz I was banging it too hard.

Wasn't until after a couple of weeks I realised (like Lamp said) my fingers would rest on the pad and create a double hit.

Exactly, when I fist got my first MPC this double triggering happened to me but it was quite evident it was down to the way I was hitting the pads and not a error with the machine.
To be honest if you can do it on purpose it's quite a cool trick

i'll chime in too....happened to me on my xl. when i got it i thought damn, the sensor is broken.

then i learned to play it.

the first time you pluck a guitar string it probably buzzes a lot too.
