problem with my Akai 4000ds

I just wanted this for the have of it but I also wanna see what it would sound like when I first take my beats on the 4000ds and then record them back to my pc,
Butt after recording something on the tape it wouldnt let me rewind it anymore, the button RWD/ F FWD button wont move! and i am not able to fast forward or rewind anymore, how is this possible?

take off the tape reel and try seeing if you can get the spindles to move with RR or FF...

that doesn't sound normal.
