cuts

Hi. I saw this little white things on vinyl records in lots of dj videos, but i cant figure out their function.

There is no hip-hop dj i could ask about this in my city, please help me.
Is this used for proper sample navigation? Sometimes these ones was placed in middle of record, just before the place where the needle have to be. sometimes these ones placed just in beginning, very far from the needle.
Sorry for noob question, but this is the only place i can figure it out.

as a turntablist myself, i find they definitely help with scratching and juggling, unless there is already a clear label on the record to navigate cues and scratching from.

the stickers in the middle of the record around the groove, i have never been a fan of or been able to get to work.. but those are mainly for competition and finding cues fast, by dropping on the sticker and slipping into groove.

so basically the idea is, your looking at a spot on your turntable whilst you know in your head whats playing on the record, using the sticker as a guide to line up with the spot on your turntable your looking at. bringing the record back and forth to the spot, scratching.

the spot im talking about could be the needle or any other spot to line up with the sticker.

but how do i place sticker in the middle of record? for example if i place sticker directly on start of place i need to mark, needle would hit the marker. so i need to place marker a bit aside to not prevent needle moving? Correct me if i got you wrong.

if your talking about placing a sticker as the picture you've posted...

then its really easy, just cut a sticker about an inch or less by the width of a pencil or smaller, then place on the record over label.. or if you want to preserve the label then just cover it slightly..
just make sure to leave a gap before the last song or groove to prevent the record ending and the needle jumping and popping!

i cant remember how many times ive put a record on and went to chill in the next room with some ppl and a beer, to hear the needle POP over the sticker and run violently into the decks to save my needle, hahaha!

as a rule of thumb, the thinner the sticker resluts in a tighter cue point for the eye, if you use a chinky wide sticker you will start to notice two cue points, one on either side of the sticker. might be confusing

Kid Koala was the first DJ i saw doing this, I thought he'd used paint to mark his cues!

oh sorry i get ya..

just cue the record and get it to the spot you want..

then put the sticker on, point up, or in a 90 degree direction, then remember that spot.
