I got the DFX and have used the VLZ.so here's the deal:
the DFX is designed for live use, doesnt mean u cant use it in ur home studio, the VLZ is designed for mixing in a home studio.

VLZ got 3band eq per channel, the DFX got 2
VLZ got better preamps (subjective)
VLZ doesnt have a master eq, DFX got a 5 band master eq
VLZ doesnt have FX, the DFX has a built in FX processor (a cheap one)

both will do the trick for what ur looking for, if money wasnt an issue i would go with the VLZ for 3 band eq per channel. i use mine as a sub-mixer my main board being a VS2400 where eqing and FX are not a problem.

hope this helps
