No more Duet?

Hey People,

I got myself an MPC 1000 a few months back.... and i love it!

Now that i have a good few tunes stocking up i wanted to track my audio into Logic. After messing around with the wiring... i have an Apogee Duet, i found that my current set up failed to deliver .

As the Duet only has 2 line inputs i struggled to find a way to connect the MPC's stereo left and right outputs. When i connected a 1/4 balanced jack into line input 1 on the duet, all i got was a horrible buzzing, sort of feedback sound. This only happened when i enabled record on a audio track in logic, with the correct input selected. After that i tried a 1/4 adapter but i still had the same problem with the noise inference? For a test, i recorded the incoming signal, when the track is playing back in logic its hard to notice the noise but on silent parts its clearer.

Does this mean the Duet is not ideal for tracking audio into Logic. If this is the case, what Audio Interface should i buy to help me track my audio into logic?

I have spent the last 10 hours looking over forums, reviews and general Google searches. I've now got to the point where i need some outside help.

Any advice would be great.

I hope it is that. I need to buy some new cables first before i can determine it. Any recommendations on cables? TS or TRS? Also, whats your option on the Duet, is it ok for Tracking? It's frustrating having finished tracks on the MPC but not being able to record them into a DAW. Also, the Duet Specs state: it has 2 high impedance inputs. Does this mean it's mainly for guitar, Bass etc.

ts cables will work fine.

trs cables wont do you any good (they might work, but they will be no better) because the mpc only supports unbalanced outputs.
ie ts cables.

your apogee should be able to record your audio into logic just fine too.

the duet is really a great interface...sounds really really good.

though im a little confused....as the duet has two line inputs and yer mpc has two line outputs....what exactly were you struggling with?

also on other thing that confuses me, what did you need the 1/4 adapter for, as both the mpc and duet have 1/4" ins/outs.

so, basically, im wondering if you are somehow doing it wrong?

also, have you tried adjusting the settings in the duet control panel? i think that's how you change an input from mic/line level, etc.

make sure the duet inputs is not turned to instrument-inputs perhaps? does xlr/other inputs sound like they´re working properly?

Had a Duet back in the day and want to get another one. Loved how it sounded. Worked perfectly with Logic too.
