Fix your broken MPC buttons

Damn you guys knows a lot about glue, should i be worried . I hope that the hot glue works for you. I also think that the best solution would be epoxy glue, but that sh!t is crazy to work with!

The new buttons costs $3.00 each, and that's before shipping & handling. I have a lot to buttons on my MPC that are needed to be replaced or repaired.
I've got new buttons from MPC Stuff, but I'd like to find easy way to fix those buttons.
I've tried clazy glue, but it did not work well; again it gets too hard, so it did not hold it well.
I found hot glue suited, because the glue can be removed fairly easily (good thing since you can make a few mistake), and it gives good amount of flexility.
And the plastic (button) did not melt with hot glue, when I was applying it (if the hot glue gun's tip is too close, the plastic might melt though.)
I did test the "fixed" MPC button by bending it a few times and pressing it firmly a dozens of times, and it's still fine.

Anyhow, I should install the button to see how long it last!

^^ props man. even though there are definitely lots of opinions, it is great to hear you actually tried something and it is working for you.

Me, I'd use a solvent. Melting the original plastic together.

I find the plastic pipe plumbing solvent is the best glue Ive come across. Give it 24hours to retoughen and its like new plastic.
Tough yet flexible.

As I promised, I installed the fixed button.

MPC-2000XL is about to be opened:


I decided to replace "Stop" button, because I use it more than tap tempo. As you can see, the button is repaired with tape. It works, but it feels too loose. For tap tempo and "0", brand new buttons have been installed already.

Off the topic, my pad is sticky and there are too much gap between sensor and pad, so I've been using this electrical tape trick. It works very well. I have to re-apply the electrical tape occasionally though.
(I was changing the tape, tape is applied to all 16 pads.)


The MOLEX connector was very loose when I got it from ebay seller. Because of the loose connection, "Full Level" and "16 level" buttons sometimes wouldn't respond. I tried many ways to secure the connection, and by inserting cutout post-it paper underneath the MOLEX connector worked the best. (I did not want to use glue, as I wanted to be able to disconnect again.)


The button works great so far. No more loose feel. So far, it feels identical to brand new button.

I don't mean to bump this thread, but the installed button is still in good condition, it works fine, so far so good!

I used Loctite Super Glue a couple days ago to fix some of my broken buttons and it works ok, I read about some people saying this could not work because flexibility but it is working for me...

So, one month later, the fixed button still works well.
