the Best MPC Pads for you ?

i've tried the 2000's, 1000 and the 4000.

IMO cons (for all):
4000: too huge
2000 OG/xl: the scsi harddisks that are compatible for them cost too much, and the other storageoptions they have costs too much aswell (in norway), if you don't buy expansions you'll have to shell out a couple hundred more bucks if you want them.
1000: the pads are too hard, a little too small to aswell. plus they don't last as long unless modding them or some other ish.

pro's:
4000: looks cool... dunno much about it
2000: looks cool, sturdy, pads felt good.
1000: looks cool, can be fitted with a 100gig hardisk, is very portable.


IMO the 1000 wins because the pad issue can be fixed with the antonym alternative, but mostly because it's up to date on the storage options out there (but for how long?) and because very easy to carry with me which is lovely when i want to feed my creativity with a new place while making a beat.

Sorry to drag this thread up but I totally agree with this. To me the 60 feels the best because you don't have to hit as hard to get to full velocity. It makes the MPC feel more like a traditional acoustic instrument when playing it.

Question is, is it the 60's pad sensors that are special or is it the way it's built/something in the circuit boards. If it were the pad sensors I'd seriously be tempted to take the sensors from the 60 and put them into the 3000. However, not sure if transplanting pad sensors is 1. possible and 2. a good idea.

Any thoughts?

Best pads I've played were on a 2500 in GC.
Owned a 2kxl, now own a 4k.
The best way I've found to make it respond like a real instrument is to buy the pad corx from mpc-stuff. You can go from tapping very lightly to higher velocity with no response lag. However, the pad corx don't fit 100% perfect so sometimes a note will hang, but it beats the alternative. It's basically a circle of felt that sticks underneath the pads and closes the gap between the sensors. Low-tech, and simple.

My vote is for the 2XL Best feeling out of all of um.

Surprised the 3000 has gotten so much love here with the pads, Besides 1K, they are the worst with pad velocity. All the ones I've used, you need to smash the pads to get it at Full Volume. Sound is a dif story.

i've tried just about all of them except the 4000 & 5000.

i'd have to say the best most comfortable feel are on the 2000XL & 60 MKI.

between the pads of the 60, 2000, and the xl.. they all are pretty much the same (after a side by side) ... but the 60 has a "gummier" rubber that I like..

also, the smashing of pads is due to the pads being smashed I would guess (excluding the 500 and 1000)

MPC 2000...the MPC I started out on...and still own.

But I have also owned every MPC (outside of the MPC 60/500). And never had complaints/concerns with any of their pads....

I may as well chime in...

I've owned 2000xl, 60mk1, 60mk2, 3000le and 4000. All remain except the XL which I traded up for the 4000.

The 2000xl pads were head and shoulders above the rest.

It must be said that none of the machines were box fresh when I bought them, but they worked fine.

I've owned several mpcs mostly 4000's 2500's and 1000's...4000's pads always felt the best, like butter probably cuz they got broke in proper over the years...while newer mpcs feel stiffer...I messed with somebodys XL pads also felt good, but again probably cuz they been on it since the day it got took off the shelf

I'm gonna agree with the 2000XL being the best. I have 2 of them (one lined of course ), and with either the original dark greys or brand new MPCstuff pads, it feels the best to me.

The last set of MPCstuff pads I got (from VST go figure, wasted $5 extra thinking I was getting sharp corner OEM pads) have the logo on the non-visible part of the sheet, and are softer than the ones I got last year. I also find the newer light gray OEM pads a bit harder, but those have been taken out of my MPD and 2500.

I also have a 4000 and 1000 (full level or Fat pads necessary obviously). I find the 4000 sensitivity pretty good, JJOSXL lets me really dial in the response/sensitivity I like on the 1000/2500. Actually the Fat Padded 1000 is pretty close to the feel of the 2000XL once you get used to how much rubber is there.
