I get so many "check out my music" PMs on soundcloud it's not funny... I usually dont respond to those, but when I do I usually say "no, you check my music"...

okay that is not including people who I follow and in conversation they mention they uploaded new material, I'm talking about people who out of the blue send that.

Thats exactly what I'm referring to, Hell you have several thousand followers, I can't imagine how many of those you get.

here is a prime example, now keep in mind if the person left a simple comment or what have you.. chances are I would have went over and had a look at the person's music... but you send a private message like this and the motivation is gone for me... I dont know if the syntax just has me expecting the same quality in his music but none the less... this person's music is at the bottom of the check out list:

followback plz nd check da song

yeah I didn't follow back. No disrespect, but come on.

Hey Mr Debauch - check out my soundcloud
OPs setiment is shared. I started back in the day and there was no internet, just some people you meet round the traps and half them are up there own ass, so it made you try. There was no other way, sure some magazines here and there, but there was no one to teach me. I can just read music, and and am teaching my self a bit of theory but i play by ear and that is a skill set you cant buy. rome was not built in a day, and I have only gotten to to where I am from striving, teaching myself and just doin it. Tell the kids this today and they don't believe you. Oh and after years of bad japanese manuals, jj's web site makes perfect sense...mostly 8)

Personally I couldn't care less about those who don't want to learn... more space in the music world for me. What I hate is them delusional people who say 'teach me how to make beats like yours' like I can go 'ite yo check here u gotta do this and u become J Dilla' I don't mind helping people at all because I've needed help at one point and got it from someone else (even if it's just searching a forum for an answer, it's still help off someone else) but when they're acting like I can teach them creativity, personal taste and then how to become me in 3 easy steps it's infuriating.

Although sadly it seems our world, or at least the U.S revolves around being famous, everybody's on some "look at me, look at me" and social networking has made it worse. I really don't even feel like posting music anymore because I don't wanna be thrown in with those type of people, not saying those who post music are like that by any means, but I'm tired of getting messages on youtube and soundcloud all saying the same thing "dope beats, leave a comment on mine and I'll comment on yours" like what the **** is the point of that? Don't comment on my ish, I don't care, I'll comment on stuff if I like it or think I can help with constructive criticism. Seems like people value comments and views over quality and skill....which is destroying or at least severely over saturating an already crowded area.

Alright I cut this rant short
