Copped a 3000

Good price on the 3k. What would posses someone to take a marker to an MPC like that? I'll never understand it.

well let me suggest a rag and windex first just to see if it starts to come off.. if you see it fading a bit then keep at it.. if it doesn't get better then try a dab of running alcohol on paper towel just to see if you see the ink's colouring rubbing onto the paper towel.. if it does then do the rag with alcohol... if that doesn't work then try the magic eraser foam sponge things.. but do that as a last option and I suggest removing the entire arm rest first because that shit is like sand paper so you might be stuck doing the whole thing evenly to avoid a faded area look in the end.

tried it all except the magic eraser.......Depending on whether I wanna restore and sell it, or keep it for myself, is going to decide what route I take with it. If i keep it for myself I'm gonna get creative as hell and take B.Read's idea, wrap it in suede or leather. Like the 3k so far but I still want a sixty and can't justify having 3 mpc's

listen man, you are a hip hop producer, you cant cut corners... you need to have the standard tools of the trade or as close to it as you can get. Obviously the SP would be hard to get at a deal as low as your 3k, but still you make do.

Call it an investment you can actually use.

At $300 that 3000 is an investment you can get a great return on if/ when you sell, same applies to any other vintage gear.

The key to my investment strategy is to buy at the right price, if I can make more than the 3.5% I get from leaving the dough in the bank I buy.

yeah, and also consider the 3.5% would have to outweigh the (potential) resale difference, as well as the heat being made in the meantime in order for that to be the best idea.

Well I don't mind owning more than 2, but I meant I can't see using more than 2 at once for music.

Well you have a 4000 and a 3000 at the moment, so you can sample in 16 or 24 bit, the 3000 doesn't really bring much to the table that you didn't have before.

An MPC60 on the other hand gives you the 12 bit crunchy kicks and lo-fi melodies...

Line for line is exactly how I feel. Although simplicity of the 3k is a lot more fun than the 4, but obviosly sacrificing lots of features.

My goal is 60 for drums and atmospheric samples and 4k to do the everything else

if you can fix up the 3000 and have it working properly for a reasonable price, i'd keep it.

the 3000 might be 16 bit, but it has its own charm. you got stereo sampling, more sample time, the filter in it is killer and unique and it still has the roger linn swing. slight different than the 60's swing, but still good and different than all the other mpc's.

if you can manage to fix it up without breaking your pocket, and save up some loot to cop a 60, that would be nice.

i have an mpc 60 mkI and i love it, but it does have it's draw backs. only 26 seconds of sample time when it's maxed out, no filter at all, only mono sampling, and you def want to at least cop the 3000 os for it. with it's limitations it also pushes more creativity and the punch and swing alone make it worth it. i've seen dudes on ebay and craigslist letting 60's go in great condition with all the options i mentioned for like $400-$600.

so, like i said... if you can fix that 3000 and get it cleaned up and working properly and save up to cop a 60, that would be a good move. they are both great machines, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. the sample editing without the waveform is different too, but once you get use to it, it really is a great way of working.
