Syncing the MPC 60 to PT 9

Hi this is my first post on this board.
I just got a mint MPC 60 ii with the 3000 OS.

I am trying to set everything up so Pro Tools 9 starts and stops all the other outboard midi gear. I also want the outboard gear to run their tempo off of the PT9 tempo.

Right now I have PT 9 connected to a XOXBOX (Roland tb303 clone) with a midi cable and that seems to work.

Now I just need to now how to connect the xoxbox to the mp60 to get it to sync together.

I have the manual but it's not telling me exactly what I need to know.

should be pretty simple then if you got the x0x working.

simply plug a midi cable from the x0x midi THRU back to the mpc midi in.

set up the mpc to receive midi clock externally. that should def be in the manual.

You'd be better off sending a sync signal direct from your midi interface to the MPC rather than using a midi thru port. A direct midi connection keeps the timing tighter and avoids the need for the sync signals to be merged with other midi data.

What midi interface is being used here?

I am using an maudio UNO going to the xoxbox.

So far the best I can get is when P9 starts a pad/sound on the MPC plays a rhythm but it doesn't stop or start with Pro Tools. I just want the MPC to work as a loop/sequencer.

if you just have a uno, try what i suggested with the thru port on the x0x.

have you configured your mpc to receive external clock?

A Midisport Uno will never be enough for a serious studio, so you'll have to try using the midi thru.

I'd recommend at least a 4x4 for a small studio and 8x8 for one that is well stocked.

You'll need more midi I/O sooner or later...

to the op, i think yer set up is great. keep at it, it will work, so long as you do. try that midi thru.

Have you tried connecting the UNO out to the MPC and connecting the xoxbox to one of the MPC MIDI outs with clock enabled ?

Thats cool, I'm not always right. Soimetimes I don't even know what I'm harping on about..lol

But if he's got a 60 with two midi ins and four midi outs a Midisport Uno simply won't cut it IMHO.

For now though he could get by using the midi thru on the XOXBOX, but this is a compromise.

imo the fact that the 60 is so midi capable actually puts off the necessity for further computer midi upgrades.

Got it to work with midi through on the xoxbox. Thanks everyone
