Again, changes only take effect when samples are re-triggered and note repeat is a re-trigger event.

this is important to remember - wont work with long loop samples.

wait, it wont? I have done it with long samples (not loop turned on in loop screen) and it worked... on the 2000(xl) i had it set to mono.. and in the 60 there is no mono option but it still retriggers. Or am I thinking of something else?

you could do it in step edit, note repeat, etc. i think it'd be easier to just do it live with full level turned off...if you can't do that put the snare on 16 levels of velocity and try it that way.

yeah, lower the bpm to 40 so it's easier to get down.. that is the easiest way

i think maybe we are getting confused.

when you trigger a sample, you cant effect it later - the volume / filter is determined when you hit the note.

point being you cant like, trigger a loop, then go into step edit and 'fade it in' - because the only step would be the first hit.

it works with snare rolls cause you alter the volume each time its hit.

Trigger a really long sample, move the fader/qlink around, it won't work. Your movements only take effect when the sample is re-triggered/ when the pad is hit again.

If you are using a 1 cycle waveform (like a sideways "S"), it "sounds" like it's realtime but the sample/cycle is so small and re-triggering at such a fast rate it "sounds" like it's realtime while you are moving the fader/qlink and it's not, just really really fast re-triggering.

yeah I know what he means.. that is the nature of midi tracks vs audio tracks..

I thought what he meant was that with a long sample or loop... 16 levels or velocity of the sample triggers didn't work... for sure half way through the sample (between note on and note off) the velocity or volume wont change.

note repeat full volume off, or slider

these work

or step edit but that takes longer and is boring

you shouldn't shy away from doing things on the fly. they are more fun than going back and editing.

but whatever works.
