almost 10 years Later.. How is your machine holding up

after 10 years of use, how is your mpc holding up?

please state weather you bought it new or used, and how many previous owners.

I have a MPC4000 on the way, my third one.
scored it $500 on the ebay

that is a great score though if it's legit.

My MPC 4000 is out for a week for repairs on the third trip for a few buttons repairs, shotty cd drive and to get my front usb port fixed. But besides that is still bangs outs the joints.

I got mine from Tap, have no clue where it was before that, probably need to deoxit a few buttons but its still in perfect working order.

Second owner, no trouble at all! (I did have to replace the HD though, because it was lame)

I bought mine used from the original owner in 2004. Dude put it on the bay for a ridiculously low price at the time, people must have thought it was a scam.

Anyway collected the beast from the dudes house. He picked me up at the tube station in a brand new Range, when we get there it was the nicest pad I've ever set foot inside ever. Massive crib and a Ferrari in the driveway too.

We go down too the basement and I'm like WHOA!! The studio down there was pro quality and bigger than my whole apartment, it was beautiful. Dude told me he came up working for Stock, Aitken and Waterman and was now an independent pop producer in his own right. Two D8B's, Pro Tools HD, Mac Pro's, racks full of quality gear, keyboards etc....Chatted to the guy for 15-20 mins and left cos he was clearly working on something.

I really didn't want to leave, but I had the beast for about £500.00. As soon as I got home the 2000XL went up for sale.

White model, no mechanical problems at all, still going strong.

That is nice clint. Good for you. I would have tried to pick his brain for every music tip I could.

I bought my 3k for a old school Japanese cat around the same time too. And picked his brain a bit but the methods were different from 3k to 4k so I left the 3k collection dust till I traded it in. The 3k was in mint condition though so getting gear from a studio or pro is a great look.

He did give me a useful tip though: "In this country, pop music is where the money is made".

I still haven't tried to produce any pop yet though, but he was right...perhaps he meant Hip-Pop.

You can say the same for Japan J-Pop rules and Arashi and Akb48 are the kings and queens of it. Sadly group can hit a note in tune but they got the image and pop sound down.

On a different note K-Pop singers can really sing and they have a more R&b feel.

When ever I would shop at my local pawn shop, I saw it there, the old dusty and dirty mp4k. The price tag said $995.99, so I never even really considered it. Plus I was way into my 2000xl. Then the screen went almost blank, and I was guessing where I was in the menus. Song mode couldn't be seen at all. I had been waiting for too long for a new screen release, not getting anything done musically. Just about a month ago, I went in the pawn shop and told the guy I wanted to buy the mp. He new that I knew it had been sitting there for 2 years. I asked him how low he would go cash right then. He said "make me an offer, you won't insult me." I said "no I'll wait." He was looking it up in the computer, probably what he gave to the guy who brought it in 2 years back. Then he said 600. I played it cool, stared at the dirty buttons and back up at him, then the nasty buttons again. " I was thinking more like 400." I told him. Then he said " I can do 500 out the door." I was shocked, but played way cool. I just thanked him for letting me test it out and left. Sold the xl, then want back in to buy it week after that.

After being cleaned up, looks and works like new! I am in love with the huge screen, I can see the waveforms again. And it feels like I only spent 250 on it cause the xl went for 250 on ebay. Not sure how many owners. The white one. No options installed. 60g HD. 512 ram. Cd rom installed. $500 bones.

Bought mine new in Hong Kong about 8 years and smuggled it back into the country without paying duty on it...The customs guy looked at the big box and said "what's in the box" and I said "just some dj gear" and he said "dj gear oh cool" gave me a big smile and that was it....At that time I paid about $2500 USD for it. Lucky I didn't get stung for the $700 duty I would of had to pay.

8 years later and I've replaced the screen - had to resolder the USB front input...buttons are gettin a bit wobbly but still all good.

It sounds better now than 8 years ago - go figure
