What's the best place in the worls for diggin?

Chi town is aight i mean we got dusty grooves but they are expensive as hell, 2nd hand tunes is dope on the 45 side,couple of other lil spots,the dopest spot i found was outside the city, untapped in Des Plaines they closed a while back,go figure

probably not the best in the world but, im on vacation in sacramento right now, and damn, diggin here is soo dope, i filled up my crate i brought with me today at this shop downtown.. found tons of classics by marvin gaye, ohio players, george benson etc, nothing really rare or weird.. but i got em for like a buck each! it hurts when yer diggin through dollar bins and u see shit youve paid 10+ for in the past..

buy a couple record boxes and carry them with you dont put them on the luggage rack, you'll be sorry.

those are pretty common around these parts, the rare ones you really have to digg because there are many Diggers around here they go every day and some are good with the shop peeps so they dont have to dig as hard.

England, Germany or Amsterdam... take your pick.
The wifey gets pissed when I spend more time in record stores than site seeing.

I was at Gramaphone 4 weeks ago. Those cats are ridiculous with thier prices! They wanted $90 for a Wood, Brass and Steel record that looked like someone chewed on it!

Nobody mention Japan or China. They must have some really obscure shit there. I would love to get a hold of records from there.

There was a dope p0rno store in Chicago that sold vinyl in the back. We hit in 3-4 years ago when we went. We found tons of shit for $1 or so. The stuff wasn't great, but for 3-4 years ago it was good. Roy Ayers, JB's, even stuff like Titanic. It was great because although those records are useless now, it was a pretty dope find back in the day. Seattle was heat also. There was a spot on the college strip that sold RAMP for $0.99 cents a copy. Also found 2 copies of Austin Funk there. Chicaogo is definatly better than NY unless you want to drop $$ at A1 or Sound Library.

None of those records are useless now in my opinion.

A dj-ing friend of mine goes to Copenhagen - Denmark once a year to dig for funk. They have one really good shop, but i forgot the name.
Besides records, they have some of the finest examples of female homosapiens on the whole planet

I was in a shop in Antwerpen a while back that had mad records. One of them dusty-pile-o-record type of joints. Not the ones in the hip shopping area. But i came 3 minutes before closingtime, so no luck. You know the place Funky-74?

definitly holds in down for salvation army dj crews...gramaphone is home to the molemen (the illest production crew in chicago) and they dominate all the records they know underground cats would want....shits coool though they always got an answer to your questions, cause the djs and producers of molemen work in the store!

maybe it's because i'm from here so i must take it for granted or something, but i can't say NYC is AMAZING for sample digging. i could see it being huge for new stuff though. i don't buy new stuff though so i wouldn't have much useful info on that. as for straight sample digging, pretty much anywhere you can find a Salvation Army, Savers, or any other thrift shop is good to me. problem with thrift shop digging in NYC is that EVERYONE is looking to make a buck and knows how to, so the thrift shops don't really have any records of value in them. go a little outside the city into the burbs though, and you'll find a wealth of thrift shops loaded with 25 cent records of all kinds. i usually just make a custom crate of cheapo obscurities and bring em home for 5 bucks or so. if they suck i just put em back in the store or throw them in the garbage.

I've been diggging in New York City and the Tri State areaa for close to 10 years. It is all about the amount of leg work you put into it. There are some amazing small stores in the more vacant areas of the Lower East Side and Brooklyn. You would never see them at first glance. The "higher end" places keep crates outside the store when the weather is nice. The prices go from $1.00 to $12.00 a record. Be prepared to dig through a lot of crap before you hit the good stuff. It is around though...

New York is the best... and the worst (too many diggers, collectors, japanese tourist collectors). One of the two reasons why I don't leave this place.

I still say Cali over New York, but maybe thats just cuz I'm from Cali or maybe because I didn't go to the "right" spots in NY when I was there. It just seems to me that Hollywood, Berkeley, Bay Area etc.. were huge music mecca's of the 70's and still today. Even if you were from the East Coast it was everyone's dream to go out to sunny Cali and cut a record. Now I understand that NY had a huge scene as well with Woodstock and later the Punk scene etc.. but who can front on Wattstax right here in sunny L.A. I still say Cali for diggin (although it is drying up).
