which one 2000xl or 2500?

Yeah I KNOW, thanks. It even came with 128MB RAM installed along with the DVD drive. I couldn't even believe it I got it for that price, I thought someone was gonna outbid me in the end but I guess no one was watching it. Lucky me.

2500 with JJ. I just bought one in pretty much brand new condition for $900

they are the exact same machine .... except that the 2500 has more capabilities , as far as harddrive ..and usb connection ... they basically took the 2xl . and threw it in a cheap casing .. with a shitty joggle wheel . but yet they added usb and a built in harddrive . and a new ""jjos"" .. so i explained the pros .. and the cons are the cheap material they use for the 2500 .. it all depends what you sample.. and remeber they are just ""recorders"" ... its what your sending out and how you mix it is what makes the sound your looking for .... go what is comfortable for your finger tips .. i would say .. 2xl . thier cheaper and built tough ... and ""look better""

I hear that and agree...but you agree all that wasnt enough to hold you back from getting 2500, why speed and efficency ?

2500 has a generic sound. But with JJ OS XL it's a beast of a machine. I like the 2000XL better, even though it lacks the features of a 2500...The sound is flawless and it's a more reliable machine.

My 2500 I had to replace the PCB assembly, the midi timing started messing up. It's just a cheaply built machine.

Can you define "generic" for me in regards to sound?

I meant vanilla..lacks the character and color of the 2kxl.

Okay Krush..this statement may be misleading as hell. The colour of the 2kxl's sound has absolutely nothing to do with the coinverters and circuitry, but rather the propietary .snd file format of Akai's vs the much clearer, much larger and much more generic .wav filetype used in almost every audio application(pc's, samplers, so on). So, in order to get that 2kxl warmth you need to record in .snd format. There is less digital information and it is a lower bit depth(13 bit I believe), therefore making the sound "coloured".
I don;t think the 2500 records in anything but .wav, but it will play .snd

You gotta do corrective mixing in Pro Tools when using a MPC 2.5k. To make it sound full and professional. AKAI didn't pay too much attention to sound detail with this model. Its why I got rid of it to get a 4k..and use the the 2kXL as a backup.Now I know this is not a true comparison...but with my experience with both machines..its pretty close. The MPC 2.5k has a rough grainy sound..2000 XL is smoother and fuller.

I have both machines as well as a 3000 and a 60. I like them all, but they are just different animals from different times in technology. I was just curious about his meaning.
