S-950 power cable

I am posting this as I think it may help someone at some point!

Lost your s-950 power cable?
Damaged?

I got a damaged 950 for 40 quid today, and boy had it had a tough past!
It was missing its power cable and had solder all over it's plug pins; on top of this it's voltage switch 220-240 v had been smashed

I removed the switch and wired it's blue and brown wires together (as a bypass) and trimmed and sealed the uneeded white wire.
I then removed the American two pin insert and after a bit of a file I made the hole bigger to fit a uk 3 pin kettle plug.

To wire the kettle plug to board:
Brown to brown
Blue to blue
And the middle (earth/ground) pin is to be bolted to the samplers shell.

Perfect!!!

50p repair or conversion
No more switch
And if you loose the plug you need not travel further than the kitchen

40 quid seems a bit steep. Did you try a Tandy/Radio Shack store?
It's been awhile but isn't the power cord to an s-950 the same as a computer cord? I can't remember if the 950 needed a grounded power cord or not.

Dunno... They seem to fetch 80-100 on eBay

I had seen that the cables where not the same size as anything else, it did not need to be grounded... A kettle plug was the best fit and the ground was there so why not

i think he meant 40 for the machine, not the cord...

good mod, I pretty much have it set like that on the 900.. also added a 3 prong plug to my old tube guitar amp because in the 60's they didn't have the ground... that was great because it gets rid of quite a bit of hum.

And there is no hum from the 950...

Glad you guys see this as valued information, I am always doing bits like this and it's always good to see tested methods before starting surgery

no there would not be as it is a piece of digital gear with no amplification.. but on the amp being an analog piece of amplification kit... any buzz would also be amplified...

I performed this 'mod' a few years back
and found it fairly simple as I have an electronics background but would not recommend it for beginners as it can be extremely dangerous when dealing with power supplies and mains voltage.

As previously mentioned take caution! I

f you decide to go ahead use a circuit/power breaker when testing your rewired socket.
