JJ will still work. I replaced mine almost 2 years ago. Sadly, I might have to replace it again. Too many buttons are hard to react. Got to damn near jam my finger into them to get a response! I wish someone would make a heavy duty part like the older MPC. As much as the 2000XL build quality was badly talked about, I never had any problems with it.

Well I guess it's the usual tact switches tear and wear + some random (and very very rare) fake contact: you click F4 and it results in changing to PGE screen as with MODE + PAD11. This later issue occurred a couple of times in the last year. The most annoying is having to press the buttons very firmly and precisely to trigger them, especially the arrow keys, window and mode tact switches.

Since I'm yet to open it, I don't know if it's just a matter of cleaning the switches or if I should just go swapping the PCB with a spare new one I have.

In this case I'm afraid of compromising the JJOSXL serial, since I thought to understand it's linked to some kind of HW check... but if as roxstar says this does not happen, I'LL CLEARLY SWAP THE ENTIRE BOARD! (EDIT)

They have a large topic on this over at the akai os 2500 forum. They have links to replacement tact switches and changing/cleaning solutions. I've open & cleaned mine & it's really not that difficult.
