Mpc to PC

Alright, ive been tryin to contact some akai dealers in my hood but all of them would not help me since i didnt buy my mpc from them, assholes....

so here i am, with a new mpc hooked up to my mixer and turntable, but i need to know how to hook it up to my computer.
I take the rca cables from the out of my mpc, put an adapter on the cables so theyll fit in the in of my computer. But it don't work well, the sound only comes out of 1 speaker and its all distorted.
can anybody help me out?? i could give a better explanation of my setup if this aint clear at all.

You need to go out of either your MPC or Mixer into the sound card you have. If it is the intergrated soundcard you will need a 1/4 cable going out of your MPC (RCA if going out of your dj mixer) to 1/8 cable into sound card. Easy as 1-2-3. What program are you going to record onto?

iight thanx, well that sorta answers my question, but thats what im doin, so at least i know im doin it right.....but why the distortion and the sound only commin outta 1 speaker?

The distortion is probably due to either your sound card input is tooo loud on the inturnal mixer and or the plug is not all the way plugged in. Wait!!!!!!
Do not try and pust it in while the computer is on or it may freeze up. As for why it is mono this could be that you have a mono plug in a stereo input. that is the EZ answer seeing I can remember your sound card.

the one speaker problem: you are indeed using a Mono adapter/plug on a stereo/balanced cable. a MONO plug will have one black ring at the end. a STEREO one will have two.

a plug/adapter MUST match each other in this scenario (ie, they both be stereo or they both be mono)

i can explain this in detail if you wish, and you WILL need to know all this in the future as Balanced/Unbalanced signal paths are important in music production


also regardin gthe distortion sound you are possibly sticking the plug into your soundcards MIC input. failing that, the MPC may be too loud or your software to control the volume of the sound card is too loud.


i could give you about 20 ways to hook up your setup but you need to be straight up about two things...

1) what you want to do. if youre not to sure... then the answer is Basic Setup

2) what your gear has... ie, auxillary and record outs on your mixer offer fleible routing options... let us know if you have those. name what your mixer is.. model and brand. name your soundcard etc....

im an audio engineer and deal with this shit a lot and dont worry, it all seems **** hard at first. its seems crazy cause there are so many possiblities but im sure we can help you cut through all that on this forum

what's better routing the signal directly from the MPC stereo outs to the computer..or from the MPC to my numark dj mixer and then to the computer

i always have the weakest link theory (think it might be the mixer in this case)

well thats a trade-off you have to decide on, dependant on how you use your gear


in the end, trust your ears.


personally i route my 8 outputs on the MPC to a patchbay which i then feed into a Mackie 1402VLZpro

4 tracks go into the XDR pre-amps (bass drum, snare, bass) and the other 4 go into the stereo inputs. at any given time i may have compressors placed as inserts or fx units as sends. so basically dont fret about signal paths. if you keep it clean you wont suffer from having a few bits of gear

in any case, vinyl samples and a dj mixer.... any minor grit from the mixer will probably keep with the vinyl sampling ethos of MPC sample production you know.

I had the same problem with the distortion levels. Running cables from 1/4 to 1/8 is not recommended in my book. I would populate your computer with an audiophile soundcard/ rca connectors, that would solve the distortion levels. THe one speaker thing could possibly be a bad cable, connector or hardware so on.. The studio sound card is worth the buy because it's user friendly;convenient, usable functions when sampling and listening to beats made on the mpc. You dont need to recconect cables because there is a tab on the audiofile interface where you could select hardware input and output. hope this helps.
