Cool lamp. I used to focus on finding the region start points in the 4k by trying the Kev Brown way sampling piece by piece off the record or cdj, or the old copy a section from the sample and truncate it down to the note or notes for the phrases.

I always wanted to set up marker points for the parts I like and go back and chop them out rather than dial it in or hold the the record to sample. With the audio editor I just listen and drop markers on every part I like as the sample plays then drag it into the 4k to cut. 8)

unless its a break, I rarely chop in regions and I always chop in the sampler, I believe its what is made to do IMO. They way i do it is lets say I have a 8 bar sample i want on 8 bars or whatever, i adjust the start region and extract from the main sample and assign new sample to a pad then go back and delete the excess start and end points to save sample memory. With the 4k having the secondary "zoom" window below the sample i can get more precise on the next chop and I have the button sequence down so i fly through it when I'm in a zone.

I chop on pc or mpc, however I'm feeling that day.

The only thing that I limit myself on is sequencing, I like to strictly sequence on my mpc and/or triton.
I don't sequence on pc, I like my hardware for that.

I chop in Recycle and then import the Chops thru the front USB port...Ingenious actually...Gets my chops on there and I export in Recycle as 24bit samples...content definitely comes out clean...I love my 4000...Ive owned the 2500, 3000, and 5000 and the 4000 is by far the best MPC that I have ever owned, its like an updated MPC 3000...I love the sequencer and whatnot...It took me some getting used to but I get my 4k to swing like the 3000...its all in the matter of preference of machine, but to have the MPC 4k with the updated features rather than SCSI is a plus...Love my damn 4K...sometimes I cant believe I got that joint.

Hexx Yeah, I cosign on that, I remember telling my cousin I wanted a 4000 and he told me nah you dont want that the 5000 just came out...After finding out the 5000 was weak I had to get the 4k...

On another note when dropping markers and dragging the sample into the 4k to chop it is important not to go pass 32 slices or your 4k screen will pop up with an error screen.

see, i don't really 'chop', i 'extract'. i feel like this is less confining and leaves me open to explore the sample a little better.

if you use the computer method, which i do on occasion using audacity, you can can take out as many chops as you want, put them in a folder, slap em on a usb drive, load em all up in the 4000! i've already loaded up all the banks with my chops as 1 program. yall should give a go if you haven't.

MPCs have had this feature since the 2000XL...they just changed the name from Slicing to Chop Shop, and dumbed it down a little bit.

If you have the samples sliced in Logic..just bring it in the EXS 24 and use the MP as a midi controller. The EXS is a powerful sampler.
