Best way to sync an acapella to a track??

Seriously I'm working on this dj shadow remix competition and the more time I spend working on the syncing I'm just getting sick of hearing the track and I know Ill completely loose interest pretty soon so if anyone is interested in doing it for me you can name a price that you think is fair and Ill be happy to match it to get this done.

Wow, i spun out, when i read this thread..... So much info and work for just tempo matching parts. Crazy.
I just load up accapella into my MPC and beatmatch by ear. Yeah ok im not really a noob, and i know you want exact tempo matching as well. Why not just time stretch one part so it fits tempo then import and mix it.

Im getting better at warping it just takes time really need to stop moaning about here for one thing : )
Do any of you gents know How I can e-mail my abelton project??

never used ableton, but i'd assume you'd export the file and then email it as an attachment


i never spend more than 5 minutes matching the acapella with the beat. start your acapella and then start your beat and just keep re-adjusting the tempo of the beat, until it matches the vocals. or use a kind of BPM analyzer to find the tempo of the acapella and then set your beat accordingly

If you want to e-mail as one WAV/whatever format file then highlight the entire thing go to File: Export Audio/Video and it's self-explanatory. You can do this for individual tracks too as long as they're solo'd. So you could send him each seperate part as a WAV/AIFF if you choose.

If your friend has Ableton too I'd suggest sending him the entire project file. For that go to File: Collect All and Save. Then you can e-mail him the project folder which has all the relevant bits and he can tweak it internally which would give him much more scope to tidy up.

use tap tempo while the original song is playing - that should get you close enough to start. .

if u can tap in tempo at least

just loa the acapella onto the pads verse by verse and play with the pitch to get the right speed to match ur acapella.

Yeh he has Ableton though, not Maschine or an MPC as far as I'm aware.

even so u can do the same if u setup ur drum racks correctly in ableton u may need to chop a verse down into two or three segments to make it fit tighter so it will be almost like chopping any other sample

you could use drum rack or sampler in ableton to do it that way.

i would use sampler. you have full range of keys and fine tuning of pitch with sampler. you could route the output of sampler to an audio track and do it verse by verse, hook by hook. just load the acappella into 1 sampler track in ableton, then create a bunch of audio tracks to route sampler to... for the verses, hooks, etc...

def a more dj like or old school producer way of working, but it does get the job done. once you record the audio that way in ableton, you can go into the audio you laid down and warp it for more creative possibilities.

the options are endless.

or you can send your acappella and your beat to a dj with serato, traktor, etc... and have them do a blend/remix for you.

yeah i like th eold skool way even though we using advanced toold i like to use the old skool ethic not cos im tryna do it but cos its just a simpler more direct method of getting the imediate feedback plus u can re-trigger the verse sort of like a dj pull back on the track like the following although not perfect i should chop it down smaller for more control but just did a two minute jobbie just to catch a quick vibe.
