I just bought an MPC 2000XL. The previous owners were heavy smokers as it is covered in a filthy yellow tint. I was able to remove most of the tint off of the face plate but have found no success with the buttons, knobs, and pads.

Does any one have any suggestions of solutions that ca be used to clean the buttons and knobs with damaging the plastic or stripping their color?

Yuck. It's a shame how some people treat their gear.

For getting really nasty stains up, I've made my own cleaning mixture that seems to work pretty well.

There is a product in the US called Simple Green which is a brand of cleaning product, you may have a similar brand in Japan. I mix of 75% Simple Green and 25 % isopropyl alcohol and use a soft brush to scrub the gunk out.

If you want to deodorize, use some white vinegar.

Good luck!

I have met very few Japanese guys that didn't smoke. The previous owner of this MPC was spoking cigarettes like it was crack.

My buttons and knobs have been soaking in 70% isopropyl alcohol for the past 20 hrs. The alcohol hasn't damage the plastic and removed a fair amount of stains. But they are still slightly stained. I will try today to see if I can locate a similar cleaning product to Simple Green. If not, I just have to put the MPC together and use as is. It is fully functional otherwise.
