Cat said "Larry Davis". That was the man. Went dolo on 5-O LOL. Meserati, you might remember my uncle DJ 2 Nice. He used to run with Bambaata back in the day. He was from Edenwald. I'm from Monroe Projects so they never really used to come through there. They might've went through Castle Hill though. I don't doubt what you're saying at all cause believe me, I know mad n*ggaz who was right there with Flash and them but got no recognition because they got locked up and sh*t and people just forgot about them. Everytime some Hip-Hop documentary come up they feel like they should be recognize because they too helped pioneer this. I feel their beef too. However, everybody who partook in early Hip-Hop is not and possibly can't be mentioned. Too many people. Hip-Hop forever y'all

Yo, just read your thread and my story is similar to yours.
I'm a 40yr old hip hop junkie as well. I was born in Harlem (169 bway)
and lived in the South Bx as well (Ogden ave. Undercliff ave, Segwick..etc) I started DJing in '77. When I watched the VH1 special I was taken back in time to the T-Connection (N.Bx) Stardust Ballrm (Bostn Rd, BX) and of course....the Fever (Jerome Ave).
I remember DJ Paradise... Wasnt he down w/Xclan later?? Correct me on that one...:) Anyway...I remember Grandwizard Theodore, GM Caz, DJ Breakout and the Funky Four plus one. They used to rock the park at "The Valley". Man, you really took me home with your post. Keep it moving my man!!!

Claude gray was his real name d.j paradise that is . He used to be down with me ,before I got locked up and when I came home he had all these bones and shit hanging out his face like some zulu tribe warrior him and them cats used to be have these big ass tree branches like they was going snake hunting. Yeah he used to live on odgen ave on 165st over a barber shop I remember him he was like a super nerd so when I seen him dressed like that ,I figured he was just trying to fit in like when he used to jock us on Anderson, Me and him used to go to Samuel Gompers High School on southeren blvd. that's the school where keith Ceasar from the funky four used to go to also. there used to be this older brother named D.J CC howard who lived in the building 990 right next to mine 976 on anderson ave. where also the famous D.J pete jones lived . We used hit labor day hard in brooklyn every year D.jing on eastern parkway on juma untill that n*gga paradise told CC Howard I wasn't going to school and he kind of stop me from D.jing with them. that was kool though because I had my own shit just not as powerfull as CC Howard"s and still did my thing untill 1982 when I got knocked with some casanova brothers for trying to rob the whole number 2 train on 149th st and 3rdave.Me my brother and god rest the dead my man Tito . yo Im out I'm having flash backs on how wild I used to be peace!!

believe it or not...back in the end of 8th grade when i was gettin into hiphop seriously- i saw a "rockumentary" on mtv by chance about old school hiphop- since i was just getting into the scene, thats all that i was excusisively listening to- then underground and finnally mainstream hiphop...not the ussual transgression for a foo growen up in the 90s, but thanks to that documentary i got schooled early on, as the cliche goes you gotta know where you came from to know where ur goen.

This goes out to my man Masterati. Yeah, you called my man DJ Paradise name..Claude Gray. He had a cat that lived on Ogden Ave. (the big white building next to PS 126) named Mean Gene. That cat lived on the 17th floor and he was wicked. I cant lie, I bit some wicka-wicka scratches from that cat. Maserati, check this out please feel free to PM me. Although I now live in the Atl i do NY at least 2x a year. Yo Maserati, do you remember everyone in the world was singing the lyrics to Rappers Delight BUT didnt know what "drive off in a def OJ...." (Big Hank) really meant.
But...we did. That was one of the local luxury car services in the hood.
along with "Touch of Class", and "Godfather", these car services were where a b-boy could light a spliff and listen to a grandmaster flash mixtape while getting his hustle on. At least thats how I remember it.
Peace to all the old heads who have retured back to the beat.
