Yamaha Tenori-On

I deserve a late pass. Doing a search on Little Boots on youtube I've only just discovered that this thing exists watching this video.

Yes she's cute (check the beautiful woman thread) , but I really want to know if it is any good for the price (£874 for that small thing!!!) and how the gods hell does it work???

As far as I can tell from research it's a really interactive step sequencer type of thing. It just has a very unique way of building up loops and sequences with that visual feedback aspect.

No idea where you're getting that price from though. I've seen the white one which has LEDs on both sides like Little Boots' for £500-600 and the Tenori-orange variety which I believe is exactly the same but only has LEDs on one side for £209!!!

I've been very tempted lately too man I have to say.

I'd rather buy an iPad and a bunch of apps (Moog, Tenori, Korg) and still have some change left.

Fair point though, the white one is an absolute joke of a price, and the iPad is a very fair alternative.

Nah, I don't find it that sonically inspiring to be honest, so even at £200 it's too much. I also wouldn't want a handheld device that needs to be chained to a socket.

Yeh only the original millionaires option came with the option to run on batteries.

It's definitely more of an up-market gadget/toy. But still interesting, especially as a MIDI controller. If I get a monster win on the lottery I'll treat jnorth to one, and I'll force one upon you Coz.

If I have a monster win I'll by you an iPad and an iTunes voucher.

So so cruel.

the orange one is missing something else too ... dunno what, can't remember, and my interwebs are broken at the moment, can't get to loads of sites so can't search to find out

however if it is a device that runs on a power adapter (wall wart) lets say 9 volts... you can make your own battery for it.

I really wanted a Tenori On at one point, because I love the Electroplankton game on the DS (by the same guy) but the price put me off. When the cheaper orange model came out I looked at it, but I have a vague recollection of deciding the price difference wasn't worth the loss of features ... which is odd because I don't think I was bothered about the colour, plastic case, no battery option or single-side of LEDs ... so I wonder what put me off it!

Well I think originally the white was around £800, and the Orange about £500. At those prices I wouldn't even consider looking at the box through a shop window.

But 200 fazooles for a new bedroom light that also doubles as a music-making tool/toy is pretty tempting. Also when you consider a Korg Monotribe is £150 ish, it doesn't seem too bad a deal.

Although when you consider the Mopho module is only £250, and a Monotron is £50... then things start to become a little blurred around the should I/shouldn't I line.
