How can i get a song to my computer????

How do i save the song, just the 1 song not all songs?

You need some sort of audio program (protools, sonar, cubase, reason, soundedit, soundforge) on your computer, and a sound card in between the PC and 1000. Once you've made a beat, i like to do each sound in seperate tracks... You can go to the mute page, and have control of all your seperate sounds. Hit record on you comp, and play on your 1000. You can record your beats into the comp with whatever layout you want. If you have a multi track recording program (protools, sonar) you can play each track in full, into individual tracks. Then edit them later once there all synced up...

can you save your songs (just the data and samples) on the pc instead of the CF card? prefeably by the USB connection? or would i need a flash card reader on my pc to copy my saved beats (folders) to my PC?

I like to save a new beat into a new folder with a copy of the program(s) i used (without sounds), the sequence, and the samples i used. Save this folder onto your pc/mac from the CF for backup purposes. The computer will not be able to play these files... just the mpc.

so how do i get a program to read the files?

i would recommend checking the manual. But when i had my 2000xl and i do this for my mpc 3000 i save everything in 1 folder (a deifferent folder for each beat i created). You can't do this with the mpc 3000 but with the 2000xl the saving is similar to the 1000.

What i used to do was create a folder for the beat im making then save all programs and sounds, and all sequences in one folder. When i wanted to bring up that beat again i would load the sequence file and then the program/sounds file. The program/sounds file should load all the samples, given they are saved on the same folder those two main files mentioned above are saved in.

Oh i sorry i missunderstood your question. Most software programs cannot emulate (mimic) the mpc sequencer and cannot read the pgm or sequencer files. Jessiah was speaking of recording individual tracks by audio. Like if you were to record your voice on your computer you would bring up the windows recorder and with your mic hit record. Similar to that but doing it in a professional way, with software dedicated to recording audio and instead of using your mic you go digitally with your sound card. Like jessiah said just set the program to record any incoming signal and hit record on the program. The program is now recording anything being played from the mpc. So once you hit play on your mpc the computer will record your song in wav format which you can then save to your harddrive and then burn to cd.

If you don'thave a mixer or a professional audio card, dont worry, you can still do this with the mpc and your basic sound card. I used to just plug my headphone line to the "line input" of my soundcard. This was like 4 years ago lol when i didn't have the right equipment. You should work with cool edit pro since its cheap and very basic and gets the job done.

I think Moe might be having the same probs as me :

I just got a parrallel zip drive so I'm using it to backup my files from my MPC onto my PC but I'm having a problem - when the file name is over 8 characters it doesn't recognise the end of the name (past 8 characters).

When I have long file names that end in 1, 2, etc. the computer wants to overwrite them when I save because it can't differentiate between them because the first 8 characters are the same.

Is there something I need to download to make my PC recognise my files as they appear on my MPC ?

WHAT THE HELL DIDN'T U SAY THAT TO BEGIN WITH!

OK! two different ways here. use the one u can...

1. Take 2 1/4" cables and plug them into Stereo Out in the back (L & R). Plug them into your sound card if it can except 1/4" size cables (L & R). You can also get 1/4" to RCA (L & R) adapters at radioshack if your soundcard only takes RCA.

2. If you only have an internal soundcard, there should be just a line in, or mic in. These only take the small headphone style plugs. 1/8" i think? If so, you can use one 1/4" cable out from the headphone jack on the mpc, and get a headphone jack adapter for the 1/4" cable. This will only be Mono i believe. If your sound card has two 1/8th" plugs, both left and right, then combine 1 & 2.
