First let me say I will go through and search this sight for knowledge. Just in case i get flame.

I never owned an Mpc before but I played with my old roomate's mpc1000.

I came across A mpc2500 on craiglist for $500. Its in pretty good condition just some scratching to the case...I will probably spray paint it or buy a new casing eventually. I am aware of mpcstuff so i will prop do some customizing.

I just wanted to know as a newbie is there anything I should do, or install?

this system is stock so I already know about the ram upgrade which i will purchase in the am.

I also know i should upgrade the os from what i've been reading on here.

Is there anything else? Any help would br greatly appreciate. Looking forward to learning about this machine and hopefully be able to contribute on here.

That's a nice-looking MPC, and the price seems good. Gongratulations!

After looking more closely at the photo: actually there is one more upgrade I'll recommend: JJ OS-XL. Or try at least the free JJ OS, even that works better than Akai OS...

Thanks, It has some scratches on the casing. nothing major. I was thinking on customize it and maybe painting it. I will prob buy a new casing later on. Not really sure.

I purchased a new black pad from mpcstuff yesterday. Bought an 80 gb hd and 128 expansion.

I upgrade to the free version of jjos. When I learn it i will prob move on to xl.

bear in mind that the book only covers the stock akai OS and the JJOSXL book comes out next year hopefully. if i was you i would mess around with JJOSXL without any book other than the manual and this forum until then and try and learn a few things. just mess around for a while and get to grips with it.

also, i recommend Sandisk Ultra 4GB compact flash cards. very fast, very reliable. do not buy third party cards. kingston and sandisk only.

ps. those scratches give the mpc a personality, looks cool!
