mpc 200xl with reason lesson???

hey well long story short ive been making a lot of mistakes and, i was intrested in geting a mac with a mpc 2000xl, i just wanted to get a lesson aboute both of them, and what are the pros in cons, i get of using an mpc with logic instead of logic with a midi controller, i come from a fl 9 backround/mpc 1000, i used fl then traded my midi controller for a mpc 1000 that didnt work properly, so i sold it and got my sellf a mv 8000. wasent really for me. so now i want to know the advantages of logic with the 2kxl instead of just using a midi controller or the mpc just it sellf, and if so how would it function? would logic just be used as a synthesyzer? or would the mpc be like an advanced midi controller, i really need help, thanks, any info would be greatly apreciated.

well I would use the 2000xl to make beats... and then I would record those beats into the computer.

so i would have to create a drum loop on thre xl, then tranfer it over with a floopy to logic correct?

what? why would you bother using the mpc if you were going to do that?

just use logic if that is your plan...

or get a midi/usb interface and use the pc as a midi controller for logic sort of like an MPD... or make beats on the mpc, and then record those beats into the computer and add stuff to them in logic..


but making something on the mpc and transferring it via floppy to the pc is a terrible idea.

to get your beat from the mpc into logic you hit play on the mpc and record on logic. you'll need an audio interface to do that. so, no transferring completed beats via usb (or disc), unlike the 1000, 2500 and... some others models.
however, you can transfer samples from computer to 2000xl (and vice versa) using disc or cards.

thanks guys this it hellped, how much would a usb midi interface go for? and i have a roland mv 8000 would it be a good ide to trade it for a mac g5 quad with 5gb?

I wouldn't... the mv8000 is a deep piece of kit to learn and use..

make sure you have the 3.52 update though to get those newest features.

One cool thing I like doing is using the MV's mixdown mode to use the mv as a hard disk recorder.

there are some really neat things that machine can do.

i have the version 3.5 is that the same? and i cant seem to get passed this bug , when i start a new project it dosent let me have more than 4 midi tracks and 4 audio tracks any more midi tracks i add are not available to see this is the only problem i have, i know this is an mpc website but if you have any info about it, i would greatly appreciate it, an i made up my decision im geting the xl audio inerface an im using the mv as a porable workstation to take with me on the go

The only advantage is if you like to create your own drum sounds from vinyl.It gets no better than the 2kxl...But other than that there is no advantages... Get a MPD24 with Logic. . Logic has the EXS 24 sampler that's as powerful of a sampler as you'll ever find.

wtf? I have never heard of this problem...

check over at MV nation to see if someone posted up a similar problem.. use their search function.

i have tried several times to make an acount on several e mails and it says my acount has to get aprooved by the board, so when you add a midi track its automaticly suposed to add too the midi rak even after 4 midi tracks added?

and what kind is the best mac for logic but yet affordable my limit is 600 to 700 i heard good things aboute the mac pros? and i was also looking into the novation impulse with logic, because of its auto map and sensetive pads woould that be a good idea?

you click add a midi track.. then choose what patch it's outputting to. I think you are doing something wrong.. honestly I think somewhere you are making a mistake.


As for macs and logic, I dont know... novation makes good controllers and automap is not too bad.. however I like keyboard controllers that have a midi output on the back so I can use it with hardware (the MV for example)
