How to track out when you have mute groups?

New to tracking out. Was wondering how can you track out the way a sequence was playEd if you use mute groups, cause when the track is solo'd it doesn't incorporate the mute group?

Does nobody know? this is a big problem

please explain to me, your concept of a mute group, within the context of the Akai MPC4000?

A mute group is when you can set a group of samples to a group number (1,2,3, etc) and each sample within the same group will cut the other one off when triggered.

why do you feel this is not compatible with individual outputs?

when you're tracking your beat out and you use mute groups...

if you're tracking your beat out midi'ed up to your DAW (Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, etc...) and using your stereo outs, soloing each sound. assign the other sounds in the mute group to outputs 3/4 or 5/6, etc... that way they are still playing while the other sounds are getting cutoff.

so you just assign the sound you want to your stereo out and the other sounds to say output 3/4. that way the mpc thinks they are all playing at once, but you still get the cutoff effect from the mute groups.

i had the same problem tracking out a beat from my mpc 2500. i couldn't figure it out either. good thing my friend was like... try assigning the other sounds to another output and not soloing the sound and they should cut each other off. worked like a charm.

you don't have to use midi. you can do it how you were planning to do it with just audio out of your stereo outs.

solo and track out the sounds that aren't in the mute group.

for sounds in the mute groups, you don't want to solo them. you want to assign them to your stereo outs and assign the other sounds in that mute group to different outputs like output 3/4. that way the mpc is playing all the sounds in the mute group and they will cut each other off, but the only thing playing out of your stereo outs in the sound you have assigned to them.

Oh okay! that's awesome help man. One last question, I have three different samples all in mute group 1. Would I just track 1 and 2 at the same time and then 3 and 1 at the same but delete my second copy of the first sample within my DAw? Seems to make sense.

that should work. give it a try. there is no wrong way to do it, as long as everything lines up and sounds right.
