At the Crossroads for RECORDING (help)

dont know the size and speed of hardrive, but it should be more than 40gig at least, 7200 rpm.then you get like a 120, or 200 gig for your audio recording. also i will assume your mother board is compatible with pro tools system, only thing what is front side bus fsb. and the speed of your memory. if its 2100, or 2700, either way, max it out to 1 gig, or as much it can take. also make sure you are using 80 pin cables for data transfer from hard drives. you may to do some bios settings depending on what your config, is. if u do decide to use tht computer, just do a complete re install with all the latest drivers for the board. you dont need to create a partition on your boot drive. only on your secondary drive, where the image is going to stored.

get protools.

But if the computer is a problem....then the akai dps16 is very very nice. Only think you would need is an external scsi cdrw for burning to cd.

But all in all youll get the best value out of a computer.

so I bought a Roland vs 840. I know, I know its not the best and I probably could've got better value just holding onto my money, BUT I figured I might aswell buy an entry level MultiTracker and better my knowledge before diving into a DigiDesign system or something of that sorts.

Going to school is the ruff and rugged life my man, I feel your pain. However make sure you handling your biz OUTSIDE of music. I've read a lotta posts in this thread saying buy a PT 001 and stuff but don't go broke trying to do that.

My advice is that if you're on a budget, get yourself a Fostex MR-8 Track Digital Recorder. It costs 299.95 and it has a USB port to transfer to
a PC for CD burning and editing. Obtain (however you get it is cool with me ha ha) a copy of Soundforge or Cool Edit Pro for editing samples and stuff and you'll be straight.
Another route is to get the Digidesign M-Box, if you MUST have Pro Tools but there's a learning curve with that, so be patient and it'll come to you.

Good luck with the school thing, since you gave up the drinking and smoking to reach your goals I'll dedicate this next cup of Bacardi to all you hardworking cats out there ha ha ha!
