Yeah, it scans at startup on both OS's (I dual boot, so I checked). But like you mentioned it's looking for new VST/AU's. I think it just quickly looks at the list of previously scanned ones, the process is only lengthy the first time Live checks you folder. I never noticed any functional difference with Live on either OS, actually had the same freeze/crashes on OS X as Windows 7.

With 8.2.5's release notes you see Ableton coming as close as they have in the last 2 years of admitting some people had major issues with multiple version 8 point releases. I'll test it this weekend, hopefully it goes well.

When Live 9 arrives with 64bit support I'm gonna be in full on gush mode again like Merv.

well my guess is with 64 bit support I suspect it's likely that the real support they are adding is 64bit vst support... which means that is precisely the domain of the program they have been working on so I would bet they will have ironed out a lot of the issues.

I actually didn't know it was the VST thing that was behind the (in my case, rumoured) issues.. but it doesn't surprise me as there are countless 3rd party pieces of software that it's impossible to test them all let alone every combination of them all... so they may have not detected consistent problems during testing. Thanks for shedding some light guys...

Unfortunately, I've heard that the latest bugfixes took up time and resources from away from Live 9's development. But they are definitely working full stop on it now. Ableton tends to not even talk about a new version unless they have a beta in the wings, so hopefully after their next announcement it's right around the corner. jBridge has actually worked fairly well for me in Live. (24GB, gotta at least try to use it in the present )

You can record midi in the Arrangement View. It's always been there. Just arm the track for record and go.

Don't front on Utility,,, does that job nicely AND it's non-destructive.

I had no idea about Utility. I do my L/R splits/comps in Recycle and just save 4 separate samples usually.

Anytime brother. The only thing I'd say with Utility is NOT to go above 100% with the stereo widening thing. I've never had any success that way.

100% ---> 0% is fantastic.

100% ---> 200% never worked favourably for me.

My list of things I'd like in Ableton is as follows:

1. Despite Utility being so easy, a right click --> convert to mono would be useful.
2. Built in spectrum analyser with the EQ like in Logic. I don't wait it seperately you slaaaaaaags.

That is all. So really nothing haha.

Ableton's EQ is fantastic, and also free. I don't want to spend money on plug-ins where possible, I'd rather have a Golden Age Project EQ or something.
