do you guys know if the mv 8000 comes with the vga connector to connect it up to a screen, or is it something i would have to buy seperate like the op-1 line out expansion?

if any of you know, does the mv 8000 also have the exact same alternate loop as the 8800, or the mpc jjos 2xl.

ie can you make the 8000 alternate loop go in reverse, crossfade, or alternate from front to back?

i found a good deal on one, but i dont know if it would be worth it or not to upgrade to the 8800. it would be like 500 bucks more if i did.

all i really want is an option to have the mouse and keyboard right out of the box without having to purchase anything else. and i would also want crossfade loops, but i think i recall that the 8000 didnt have the crossfade alternate loop option. although it has been awhile ago that i heard that and cant seem to find any info on it.

also mr. debauch, i remember i was asking you some stuff about this a year or 2 ago, i remember you said if you up the decay in adsr settings to 127 it will act like an mpc pad instead of having to hold down the pads to play all the way through like a midi controller.
would this interfere with the adsr of the alternate loops or would it work just like they do on the mpc with jjos 2xl?
i would really want the loops/ different loop point things to be able to play like they do on an mpc.

ie i hit a pad once and it loops over forever (or at least until another note cuts it off or the release time fades it out after awhile.)

isnt he talking about drum/gate/and trigger, arent those trigger modes that you were saying the decay up to 127 does?
he talks about this at 22 seconds of this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A599nah ... h_response

also the pad banks on the mv8000 work like pad banks on mpc's dont they? ie when you set a mute/choke group to 1 on a bank, the next bank can mute that?

im assuming it does this, but i just bought a maschine and had to take it back because bank A (called group A in maschine) wouldent mute bank B even if they were set to the same choke/mute group.

i dont think any other sampler does this, but i am just making sure cause i wont be able to try the mv out before i purchase it.

and one last thing, is there a way to expand the harddrive of the 8000 from the 40 gig one that comes with it? i always see 8800 expansions but my understanding is that the hd in the 8000 is bigger in physical size than the one in the 8000.

thanks everyone!

****edit*****

fack i just found a picture of the back and what i thought looked similar to the vga thing wasnt it, it was a digital out thing.
have any of you soldierd your own vga/mouse ports? i know those go for hella expensive now!

yeah.. you can set the sample chops to loop forward, backward, forward to backward etc..

you can also set it so say a drum loop for example... loops non stop until it is muted by a pad or you push shift+stop which is the power mute that stops lingering samples mid sentence (ie: the STFU command) yeah you set the decay to 127 (the max midi number) and the entire sample plays out... or just set it half way so it fades.. you tweak that to what sounds good.

the VGA+mouse expansion as you know is stock in the 8800, but it is not on the 8000. I have one in mine, when I bought it online years back (i payed 400 or so plus shipping for mine) so when looking at pictures or the unit itself, just look at the back... you will see the typical VGA connector right in the middle above the MIDI ports if the expansion is installed. I would even say... dont bother getting it if the expansion is not there unless it is super cheap (under $250)

the additional output plus r-bus expansion is rarer then bird's teeth... if it has that expansion installed... grab it. You could probably sell that alone for more then you payed for the mv.

there is not that much more on the 8800 I dont think from the 8000 with the latest OS which offers piles of features from the 8800 actually.. okay the built in lcd is in colour (vga output looks the same on both from what I can tell though.. in colour) the 8800 has the bass synth but a few guys seem to have made a way to load up some bass patches on the 8000.. I have not tried this because who cares.. also there are a couple of other things but basically they are very close to being the same. Someone once said the 8000 has better pads and a few other hardware quality related things but I have no idea if that is true.

lastly hard drives.. I believe the 8000 can take something like a 120 gig hard drive? or was it 150 gigs? something large like that... as you know that mod will cost under 20 bucks.

the 8000 is 349 and the 8800 is 999! i really want the vga, but the seller doesnt have a picture of the back, im gonnna see if i can get more pictures tomarow.

im not expecting to get the op8 anytime soon lol, id be good without it, but i do hop the 8000 has the vga thing.

and what is that trigger/drum/gate thing he was changing in that video?

thanks for your reply man it helped me out alot.

i really want the vga expansion but i watched some youtube videos and it looks hard to make your own diy one.
that alone would cost more than the mv lol.

that sucks they discontinued the parts for em.

your sure the alternate loop modes are exactly the same for both machines?

also, hooking up the computer screen to the mv does effectively nothing workflow/feature wise to the machine except make it way more badass correct?

the latest OS which offers piles of features from the 8800 actually.

The last OS update doesn't add any the features from 8800 v1.0. It's just a maintenance update that correct the drifting on long audio tracks and some other stuff but it doesn't add anything. 8800s are so cheap now I would the 8800 and avoid searching for a vga and get all the developed features.

A few people that did the DIY VGA have problems with the drum grid showing up properly. I would check into that.

ah.. i jumped right from 1.something to 3.something... I didn't do all the in-betweens to compare..

however there was a difference in features and I hear a lot of them were added after the 8800 came out.

I would not do the vga mod yourself...

the vga doesn't add any new capability... you can do everything very easily and well without it... but as you said, bad ass plus the mouse does make it slightly simpler for clicking in stuff on the timeline etc.

get a pic of the backside of the machine.. mention you want shots of all sides just to see condition etc.

pads in bank 1 will mute pads in bank 2 if they are set to the same mute group.
if u really want the vga and cant go without it i would get the 88. i thought i was gonna need the vga wen i got my 8k but i dont even need 1 ne mor, although it would make the werk flow a little faster and less eye straining. 8k + vga would b like $650 which is cheaper than the 88k, but the 88k prolly has a few mor features.

^ yeah but I would still wait at 650 even if that is a common price.. you do sometimes see the 8000 with vga going for under 500..

even with the vga attached I find myself using the buttons a lot

i saw an mv 8000 with the output board once for sale on ebay... it was this year and the machine was going for 600 bucks buy it now. the op 1 was not even mentioned in the auction... it was shown in the pic though... and nobody bid on it... the auction closed and nobody bought it.

i saw an op 1 and vga 8000 on ebay last week for 1300, it may have been an 8800 i cant remmeber.

with the vga screen you can see more of the timeline at once like in your daw right?

without it are you confined to like an 8 bar sequence or whatever like on an mpc?

thats one thing i dont like about my mpc its too macro oriented, i like to see the timeline, so the vga might be a wayy nicer addition for me than for some people.

is there an xox style piano roll or grid sequencer you could draw/drag in your beats with the mouse?

No, you just get a bigger screen than the LCD on the MV. No difference at all but quicker access to menus via mouse.

On the MV8000 the LCD screen is green but connected to the VGA it shows up in color, thats the only difference. Kinda looks like FL's sequencer.

but you can zoom in and out (shift+ directions) in piano roll etc.. (not sure if that works on the main screen)

also, in patterns you dont really need it cause they are short... right?

and yeah there is an XOX style drum programing screen.. you can push shift+directions in there to change the zoom and timing amount (triplets etc) ... which means for example.. you click in a square.. then skip a square.. input on the third square .. and it's a triplet. it is hard to explain.. you have to try it out to get what I mean.

oh and the mv works with wide screen LCD displays.
