I don't know how you got those file size differences, but both format are not that different as far as how audio data is stored (for 16 bit SND and 16 bit WAV, but 12 bit SND (S900/S950) is another story.)

I'll test myself with my 2000XL soon to see if there is differences in file size.

By using wavsnd.exe (WAV / Akai SND format converter), I always get the file that are same size as the original. WAV to SND, then SND to WAV would result the all the same size files.

It's all depends on the end user. If you're looking for features it's the 2500. If you're looking for sound and durability it's the 2000XL...getting a 4000 will cover everything.


Good debate on the SND and Wav files..I always learn something coming to this board.

I gotta agree, I have all 3 and the 4000 is a beast.

Never used or even touched a 4K. I am curious about it. If I wanted a 5th MPC, the 4K would be it. But the XL and 2500 are in my lab to stay. If I had to choose between them, it would be very difficult because they are so different and both are so capable machines.

I gotta say after chopping on JJos I didnt wanna chop samples in the 4k
