interface for pro tools and mpc...

From my experience, although other DAW's have several features that Pro Tools still has yet to add, Pro Tools is the best for editing and mixing hands down. To me, the way the screens are laid out and uncluttered makes it really easy to learn and get around without being overwhelmed by features/functions. And up until Pro Tools 9, it wasn't that expensive at all. At one point you could get into Pro Tools for as low as $300, which included Pro Tools 7.4 or 8 and an Mbox Mini. Or you could add $200 and get a regular Mbox which gave you another mic pre and midi i/o. But now, with Pro Tools 9 and 10, you're paying like $700-900 minimum since they no longer give you the software for free. The software alone is like $700, but you do get a discount if you buy their hardware that comes bundled with the software. It's up to you. Either way you go you will be able to do what you need to do. But one thing I can tell you is that Pro Tools support is great, from the DUC or to the endless amount of you tube tutorials for almost anything you'd need help with.

no doubt, great insight from everyone, appreciate the feedback and posts (aside from a few sarcastic posts). Ill prolly shop around a bit look into a few other softwares like logic, reason/record, ableton, etc, just to make sure im not making a mistake by spending to much for something that can ultimately be accomplished for much cheaper.

at the end of the day, the reasons i said are almost enough for me to no matter what wanna cop pro tools, but we shall see.

didnt read the whole thread, but i like the sound of my tc electronics impact twin. it also has a midi i/o built into it so you can kill 2 birds with one stone if you have anything that needs to be midi'd up to your interface.

it also has a reverb, low pass filter and a compressor built into it, and the reverb is actually really nice. its great to use for a headphone mix for your artist your recording, or as a nice sounding reverb for your song mixes.

i would even record vocals with it my impact twin without an external preamp if i had to...and im a preamp snob.

i would also suggest logic over protools, you can get it for 499 or cheaper now i think, and it a bunch of plugins and instruments that you can use for making beats, or mixing your songs.

with protools youll have to buy additional plugins to be able to mix much music with it, with logic you will have everything you need to start producing/recording/mixing right in the box. and with the impact twin youll also have some outboard effects too

i heard that newer versions of protools have more instruments and effects units but i cant comment on how many, or how good they are. but i do know that alot of the logic effects are good to superb. and the array of instruments it comes with is crazy.
you have a sampler, drum machine, pianos, synths, all kinds of stuff.

i think logic is also cheaper than protools.

one of my teachers said he would have bought logic just because the instrument "sculpture" comes with it, as well as the convolution reverb (convolution reverbs usually go for about 4 to 500 dollars, sometimes they get really expensive!)

if you like making your own sounds or instrument patches youll love sculpture, youtube it.

just something to think about.

another cool thing about logic is you can customize every key command in it.

my impact twin has 2 mic inputs and i dont remember how many line ins. maybe 6 ins in total. i think i paid 399 for it.

i dont remeber what computer you said you got, but logic runs well on my macbook pro 2.2 gz and 2 gb of RAM.

Pro Tools comes with everything you need to record and mix songs. Of course there are some better 3rd party plugins available, but you can get the job done with what's included. And PT 7.4 and up comes with some decent instruments, and versions 8-10 have a couple more than 7.4. But I'm sure not the amount of instruments Logic includes.

Logic comes with virtual piano, organ, a lot of synths, drum machine, Sound designer synth, and a powerful sampler.All of the sounds sound authentic.Every effect that you can ask for, even a auto tune plug in. Speed fades are super tight.

Pro Tools is good for tracking outboard gear. PT and my MPs work beautiful together. I wish Logic could sync my outboard gear as well as Pro Tools.

Since the conversation has turned to DAWs....

Cubase is equal to or better than Pro Tools when it comes to incorporating hardware instruments. Feature wise, improvements added in Pro Tools 9 and 10 were already possible in Cubase several years ago. I was a Nuendo (which is nearly identical to Cubase) user but sold it several years ago. It was so powerful and so easy to use.

I have Logic now...but never use it. I haven't needed to record vocals and mix in a long time. Preproduction (and yes...even 8 bar unfinished loops) is pretty much what I do. That may change in 2 years when I decide to stop working and just become a student (1 or 2 classes max a semester). I will dedicate the rest of my times to my hobbies.

Pro Tools, Cubase, and Logic are all in the same price range. There are cheaper alternatives as has already been pointed out. PreSonus Studio One 2 can do much of what the other DAWs can accomplish but the starting price is as little as $99.

Cubase is prolly the only software I ever had and said yuck right out the gate...and so many folks was saying Protools was the same way....which kinda turned me off to give PT a shot...Thanks to heads here mainly Hellfire....I tried PT and I love that sh*t....and still feel like I don't know sh*t about it...

mysterious shit happenin at your crib...mpcs get broken unused, protools untouched look unfamiliar, how teh fuk is that happen


on serious note I started on cubase sx and shit put me off completely from trying to learn to make beats...prolly explains why beats sound the way they sound

Yes I do. I track my sequences into my DAW in loops. Mostly always a glitch in my loops in Logic...

Don't have that issue with Pro tools.

Maybe there is a way to do it without the glitches. But I don't care, when I need to compose in logic. I just slice the loop in Recycle, Pull Up my MPC 3000K swing template in logic..Bring the chops into the EXS 24 sampler, use my MPC as a midi controller and get busy.

Anybody know how that vacuum synthesizer is for protools? I heard it's got a juno106 preset that has a pretty phat bass.

No ones f*cked with the vacuums synth in pro tools?
