hey i was reading about the 4k a bit and it seems like the general consensous is that it has a steeper learning curve than any other mpc. although i think if i have used the mpc 2500 (with jjos 2xl v. 2.22) it shouldent be too bad right?
i am under the impression that those comparisons were usually comparing the other model mpc's with their stock os to the 4k correct?
i have heard that the 4k os is the most similar to the jjos 2xl, in your experience is this true?

i also had a couple more specific questions about the 4k.

first when in grid mode on my 2500, you can only see 16 pads (one bank) at any given time( ie if i want to see where all my samples are hitting at at one time i cant just go to grid mode and look, if they are on different banks.

with the 4k, being it has a bigger screen, can you see more than just 1 bank at a time?

my other question is, can you use 16 bit and 24 bit samples in the same project/ program at the same time?

ie, if i had my main sample cut into chops and that was in 16 bit, could i use a drumkit that was 24 bit? if so does it have to be in the same program or can i mix and match 16/24 bit samples wherever i choose?

is the chopping similar (or the same) in the 25k with jjos 2xl and the 4k? or is the 4k's chopping more like the akai os chopping?

which one do you prefer to chop on and why?

the final question which i think is similar on both models but couldent be sure.

when sequencing on the mpc 2500 i am limited to seeing my sequence (ie 4/8/16 whatever) bars at one given time.

with the 4k, can you see more of a timeline/daw style or is it still limited to the macro/sequence style of creating like on the other models of the mpc?

it would be cool if you could see a timeline, of your tracks DAW style and zoom in on those to actually create your music, but i dont really think this is the case.

would be cool if any of you had some info about this.

thanks

Partly answered in your other thread.

But you can find out the answers to all your questions by reading the manuals and a few choice threads on the forums.

Akai OS and JJOS are different so there is little point in comparing them, MPC's worked fine before JJOS came about but like DAW's it become focused on new features hence the constant updates.

4k's chopping is stock akai os style

I prefer JJXL way over akai way...for couple reasons, it's way fast, now it's non destructive, I can let the sequence play while Im tweaking start and end points...

thanks for your replies, i just downloaded the manual for the 4k so im gonna give it a look over.

the ndc is nice, but i guess the choppng on it wouldnt really be a selling point for me anyway although it is nice to have ndc.

ndc was prolly one of the main features I always wished mpc had, especially after owning an MV...so this was a big downfall for me on the mpc series...also I found the wave view format bit strange on the 4k coming from 2500 or mv...but there are tons of other features in the 4k that outweigh those...sound, build, aksys for example, or even being able to connect computer keyboard for hot keys or naming samples...I guess Im all about convenience more than anything..

isn't that funny though...

the mv has a mouse and screen, the 4000 doesn't have the mouse or screen but it has the keyboard.. the 3000 has the screen but not the keyboard or mouse, the pc has the keyboard, mouse, and screen but not the standalone hardware, the d-beat has all of that but not the price or support (im guessing) ...
