i saw a few screen shots of this but they werent that helpful.

basically what im asking is, can the mpc 4k show your tracks, and your patterns all at once lke a daw can. then wehn you select one of them you can edit it in pattern mode?

ie does it look something like this

each I----I being a sequence

kick.......I----I----I----I..........
snare.....I----I----I----I..........
sample...I----I----I----I.........
hihats....I--------------I.........

and then i want to be able to highlight one of those I----I and copy it somewhere else in the time line.

is this possible with the linear sequencing mode in the 4k?

thanks

No.

You can do that in a DAW.

No.

You can do that in a DAW.

or on the roland MV series (not that it matters in the 4k's case, but since you have been wondering about that machine lately I figured why not)

yeah i was thinking of doing this with the MV.
i was also wondering if something that is a more dedicated sequencer has this but i think the mv is the only other option really.

i know i read yesterday about linear sequencing on the 4k, although they might have not been knowing what they were talking about.
i searched in the 4k manual and couldent find any mention of it, was this just something rumored to be added in that never saw the light of day?

im looking for the link now.

ill post it if i find it.

The closest you'll get to linear sequencing on a MPC4000 is after converting a SONG into a SEQUENCE.

If you do this any additional tracks you add to the converted sequence will run for the length of the whole SONG/ SEQUENCE.

This allows you to sequence in a LINEAR/ DAW style as opposed to traditional MPC style pattern-based sequencing.
