I just saw this thread and figured someone had brought it up from a few years ago... Thought this thing came out a long time ago. Anyways, looks like an incredable instrument, but I would deffinately want sampling. Also for synth power like that I would want a keyboard. I'd love to play with it though.

COZ: "It's already known that Roger Linn will follow the Tempest with a dedicated sampling drum machine, which will probably appease the MPC crew more."

Is this wishfull thinking, or have you actually heard this?

There was another thread on here discussing the whole collaboration between Dave and Roger, and the development of the Boomchick/Linndrum II/Tempest.

Roger made an announcement on his website a while back stating that the 'all singing all dancing' analogue/digital hybrid had become prohibitively expensive to make, and that Dave and Roger's fans were poles apart in their expectations of what the product should be. Hence the Tempest being closer to Dave's vision with custom oscillators and an all analogue signal path, and Roger's forthcoming sample based machine that will follow.

There's a few nice videos being uploaded now people have got hold of this...

Raw sounding groove

Quirky beat using the digital oscillators which goes slightly mental towards the end. 8)

I suppose you'll want one now then??!

Nah, I've wanted an analogue drum machine for the best part of 10 years and this ticks every box, and then some. It'll certainly be a lot more flexible than a Moog.

I think when you've broken the 2 grand barrier to buy a synth, everything else under that is a bonus! The only reason I sold my Andromeda was because it was a pain to go deep with the editing... I hated the OS from day one. The sound was fantastic though.

I just see the Tempest as a great self-contained machine to jam with when I'm sick of looking for samples. There's nothing else quite like it.

I would like one but that price is too steep for something that can't sample. I would REALLY like to put samples through that engine and get full flexibility.

I hear what you're saying Lamp.

This definitely falls into the "sample creation" category for me. Kind of like the way you can find hundreds of 808 kits all over the net, but nothing beats the real thing. Right?

The track in the last video sounded like somethin' off the Oddworld soundtrack at the beginning. :)

All the 808 kits I've downloaded to check out, nope, NONE of them sound like the real thing. Even the pre-installed 808 kit on my triton extreme sounds NOTHING like the real thing. I hear ya.

The dude with the nail varnish?

His Tempest vids are all pretty dark and grimy. 8)
