mv 8000 a few questions, + DIY vga/mouse expansion?

dammit! the mv i went and looked at was all **** up!

there was markers on the knobs and it said disc error the first time i loaded the screen up.

there was also a bunch of food or something all over it.

why cant people just take care of thier gear?

i didnt buy it... ill wait for a nicer one to come along i guess.

good move.. disk error is easy to fix... but why pay for someone's dirty dishes..

use the opportunity to talk the price way down.

i only saw the disc error once, and i think i would have to show the store that to talk the price down, i restarted it 3 times after that and no error. i really dont want a fulty thing if im paying that much for it though, id rather just have a better taken care of unit.

i also noticed that there was not that many sounds on it to begin with.

when i went to the pattern screen, it would show an audio track and a midi track.

when i clicked the "instruments" button, there would show only ---: init patch for everything.

is this normal?

the demo song also didnt load up when i turned it on, is this normal as well?

i was trying to find a drum kit to load up to make sure the pads worked, but it took me forever, i finally found a few sounds stored on it when i clicked the "import" button, i assume they were just things that were already there from the previous user though, no stock drums or anything.

i also realized that the black and white screen was very hard to read although i was demoing it out on a piano chair and i was sitting on another piano chair. i adjusted the contrast to be better, but still, i think sitting on a desk it would be hard to read.

can you pretty much negate looking at the whole screen if you are using the vga output?

can i click on pretty much every menu with a mouse instead of using the buttons on the mv?

still thinking if i should order the mv8800 instead.

although i wold like to see it in person first. the guy said it was in very good condition and the picture i saw it even had the purple sticker on the bottom like it was brand new too.

the cd drive didnt work as well, but it may have been because the cdr inside was blank.
i would try and load something from it, and it would give me a X graphic that said please insert audio cd.
is this normal if you try and load something from a blank disc?

well most of what you are talking about depends on what is on the hard drive.. you want the demo songs... you need the demo song projectson the hard drive .. know what I mean?

if you have a blank hard drive you can download all the original content and transfer it to the hard drive.. okay it is true that for testing purposes it would be nice to have that stuff already on there.

you can load up wave files from CDs (regular music CDs included)... you can even put in an audio disk and push the disk/usb button.. followed by going into the cd player as well just to listen to it...

there is a website which I forget the name where people uploaded a bunch of patches (instrument programs) they made... that is nice for starting out.

yeah thats what i was thinking, they probably just deleted the demo program, i think the harddrive was blank because it said something like 37.8 gigs left on it.

the cd player thing confused me though, i think that was just dead, but im not about to buy that mv anyway, i still kind of want the 8800 though, but i dont want to get it and have the same problem i had with the one at the store.

it was running version 3.5.2 or something like that, isnt there supposed to be a synth in that model?
i have read that version 3.5 (or maybe it was 3.0) and above included synth patches for the 8000, but i havent run across any videos that demoed the synth out except for this one

and the thing about the screen that i said, is it possible to use the lcd screen in place of the little screen when its attached or does it just serve as an extension to the functions on the little screen?

the VGA screen does not mirror the built in screen (like the mpc 3000 vga option for example) when the vga screen is plugged in and VGA mode is activated... it doesn't even show the usual stuff on the built in LCD.. I forget what it shows actually.. I think it may be something pad related like pattern mode sequences or something. Meanwhile the VGA is displaying almost what you would have seen on the built in screen.. but taking up the whole screen so now you see further ahead in songs as well as you see more of the menus in front of you where you can just click the one you need and it drops down with it's options..

like you have global/disk usb/menu/ and these buttons etc.. well in vga mode they get drop down menus that make it faster... the original buttons still work exactly the same.. you just get to use a mouse now too if you want.

Okay folks heres my story I had my MPC for 13 years and decided to upgrade at that time the 1000/2500/5000s were out there but we know that AKAI stopped making parts and really giving support to thier older boxes after we gave our support to them so I wasnt happy!! now then I did some research and noticed that to get a better work flow ie incorporate my software with my hardware i needed something that would allow me to do that cause as a dude coming from the Needle dropping/no mixer having/ lugging around 2 inch 24 trk days/ I wasnt quite ready for this new style of recording hahaha even though some one gave me something like 10 geez in software and I was too silly to realizse what I had ie NUENDO/WAVES/AUTO TUNE etc.. took me a couple more years to get into it,, Anyway I love My MPC but it was time to change and i discovered my new baby which was of course the MV 8000!! dude had it on Craigslist for Drum roll....... 750 with the Vga and the OP expansion. Now me not really knowing the value considered this to be a great deal,, and it was I travelled to Queens with my cousin and picked that joint up case and all plus The mouse /pad etc.. still in the plastic after shooting the breeze we dipped all the while holding her tight,, got back to Jerz and it was on.. fast forward took me a minute to get in it as I was wondering why it wouldnt work like an MPC heck I even though about trying to sell her back hahaha but after watching many videos and reading the manual several times i finally got a hold on her or so I thought Funny I didnt realize that when you make a track you need to copy your patches via the instrument button.. so i proceeded to make a bunch of joints with no way to edit each sound individually and then one day I must have been tired or something cause i erased the programs and boy was i pissed to find no undo stupid button well in the end i ended up upgrading to a 8800 now this is where it becomes fun One of my boys traded something for it what it was i know not and I offered him 650 for it well he fronted or maybe i did but anyway a year passed by I made a call and inquired if this item was still for sale? it was and this time I offered 525 and to my DELIGHT he agreed!!! so within the next 30 minutes I was back at home with the 8800 plugged in and ready to go!! I LMAO knowing what a steal i just made and have been rocking with it every since!! Of course it had the stock Vga and no OP but I just switched them so to make a long story longer the MV Can do all the things you requested and more!!! as for the OP to bang your beats out you dont really need it but its nice to have...Oh yea btw i still have the MP and both MVs!!
