Its a visual of what he's trying to do. It's a pretty good one with the exception of the dude not using any fades or decays.

Good luck with him trying to learn from the manual. Don't see how he can learn the concept of LFO's and filters from a manual. The manual is assuming you already know that.

Im mad because I cant seem to figure out how to set the chop points...Im in Trim/LP screen and Im pressing P>All and trying to set the loop or slices...Am I even doing this right? Im reading the manual but Im lost on how to set manual slice points in the sample so that I can tweak the samples in the 4000 instead of doing everything on the computer...

Not sure if its answered yet haven't read the whole thread, but your doing it wrong. To chop a sample into multiple parts and pads you can do 2 ways, one set start and end points for each sample from original sample and press "extract" then assign to program or you can just use the "regions" section of the sample edit window, choose how many regions you want ( that means how many pads the sample will be spread across) then adjust each start and end point of each region. Once done press edit and scroll to "Slice Sample" under that is an option to "create new program" choose yes, and change the threshold to 0, by default its set to 20. press do it and now you have a sample chopped over several pads. THIS IS ALL DONE IN THE SAMPLE EDIT WINDOW.

To add effects go to that new program, go to program matrix, hit the f4 or "edit 1" tap, change "edit" from one to all, then scroll down to the "amp" window where it says "FX: Multi" change it to the effect out you want, then adjust the "send" so the level you want the samples pushing through the effects.

+100

I haven't read a manual ever but I do spend hours diggin in the forum and messing with every button, every option and combination of which till I understand at least to a basic sense of what everything does. I think it helps my natural workflow and work a rounds doing that way. Fact is you and I can use the same machine to make the same exact beat but take two different paths of getting there, which is crucial to make something your own IMO

Effects are applied to parts and pads in the mixer screen. NOT directly to samples.

Edit 1, pg 211
Adjusting the pitch, filter, and amp
Here you can adjust pitch, filter, and amp parameters for each key group or note number.
To access this page ....... [PROGRAM] key → [F2] key (KG MIX) → [F4] key
(EDIT 1)

These were some of the very first things I learned in my first day of 4k'ing.
How don't you know this already dude?

What the OP asked is a genuine fully fledged feature of the 4k.

He asked:
Can someone point me in the right direction in the manual to find out how to apply Effects and Filters to a sample on the 4k?

This is done using QFX at the sample level in the trim page. The information you require is on P173 of the manual.

I understand this method of hard printing FX probably isnt quite what he meant but he should know there are basically two methods of using FX in the MPC. One is the traditional Send and return the other is pretty much the same as Pro Tools audio suite

To all musicmakers that use recylcle to chop and transfer akp progs via aksys. You would have noticed that the samples are exported as only 16 bit, even if you originally had 24 bit samples. What I do is chop and save each sample as a wav in a folder, ie bass1, bass2, etc. I then export the same chops as an akp file to the same folder; when asked if I want to replace samples click no. End result is a prog. with 24 bit samples. Also you will have to covert to a drum prog not a keygrp.
