filters

what up..you know the deal. Most of us are producing hip hop beats! I want to cop a filter bank 19". You know why, filter some dope vocals, drums etc.

I was looking @ the MFC 42 but i don't know it's a bit expensive and got many features. Maybe to much.

What kinda gear u use for it (hardware plz) and how do u do it? place the filer bank between de mpc and you turntable?

Sherman Filter banks are very kool and a good quality for the money. In my imho it kicks the MFC's filter hands down.

As far as how I use it... Just for adding effects to instruments during the recording process. It's really kool to take your main melody and add a filtered version to back it up. That or use a filter to get a funky, fluctuating bass line. You'll see..

yeah i heard allot of good thing about it. But what's the price of filerbank 1 (I only can find the filter bank 2, the newer version)

@ the moment i am also looking at the Vermona Action filter!

but ou don't use it to do some funky ish with a sample? de vermon action filter got a phono input, so you can hook up your turntable to it!

I don't know I like sherman cause it's pretty kool. I don't need a phone input cause I sample everything through a mixer to my computer. nice filters though..

I have 2 different filters at the moment. I have a moogerfooger mf-101 low pass filter, and a Line 6 Filter Pro rackmount filter unit. It's a bit of a Swiss army knife of filters, but the synth effects are kind of lousy(but might work for industrial), but most of the other filters are decent enough. The mf-101 is basically a Moog lpf in a large pedal format. You can make any signal boost the bass and take out the highs and mid range frequencies. It's almost a Daft Punk kind of sound, but that can be fun to use as well.

I'd maybe get a Jomox or old school Electrix filterfactory unit if I do decide to pick up another filter unit.

I have the Stanton DJF-1, which was made by Vermona and is exactly the same as the original Action Filter. I love it. Its a clean filter, it won't add a lot of beef to the signal like a Moog, but it does sound nice in a modern way.

I also just got a Vermona DAF-1 which is basically the Action filter plus an LFO, envelope follower, and external CV/pedal input to modulate the filters cutoff.

Most of the time I get my samples into the MPC clean, and filter them with the DJF afterwards, by running them out the auxillary outputs, thru the filter module, and back into the sample inputs.

I also use the DAF as a synth filter, by running instrument programs (JJOS) thru it.

I use Electrix Pro Filter Factory... copped it on ebay last year (or early 2011) for $90 or $100 cant recall. I could find an Akai MFC42 but the Electrix Pro Filter Factory has done all I need and more. its grimmy and flexible. I've used it on samples drums synths for everything from added grime to wobble and flange like effects. it's tuff to come by but my homie trolled ebay a few months later and found one too.

It's really ill to run the 5000 synth thru it. it add a grit and growl that you dont usually find in digital analogue modeling synths
