Hey guys,

I'm new, obviously, and I love the forum. Been searching through everything, and finding all the information i can.
I'm sure it's frustrating when newbies ask seemingly obvious questions, but i'm just requesting someone with some knowledge guide me as to what OS i should begin with.

My MPC 1000 arrives tomorrow, Its 128mb mem, and 160GB.
I'm interested to see whether the upgrade in OS (to 2XL etc) is worth the price; Or if the added features would be redundant to me.

I have checked the comparison charts, but being fresh obviously, I have a limited knowledge of what upgrades are useful.

In short.
Which JJ OS version would you recommend to a beginner.
I have no problem paying the extra if its worth it. I have plenty of free time to learn.

Thankyou in advance guys.
And i will lock the thread when I get a concise answer, and try not to bother ya'll with any more questions :)

Hi Cookies, I've been a long time lurker on here but reared my ugly head over the weekend, so welcome :)

I've had my MPC just over 18 months now. I spent a few days to a week getting used to the bog standard Akai OS to begin with. Once I had a grasp of the fundamentals I went straight to the free JJOS 3.12 and also bought the manual which is absolutely amazing. The best 30quid or so I ever spent!

The main thing for me was the change to grid edit, I like to visualise what I'm doing.

I've only just upgraded to JJOS2XL but the improvement to the workflow and ease of use is worth it alone, never mind the extra features.

In short, I would recommend using 3.12 until you're happy and feeling competent, then go straight for the upgrade to the newest version of 2XL.

Happy pad bashing 8)

Yup, ignore the akai os, get the free jjos (changes arent major but fixes critical bugs) and when you feel like you know enough 'n want more, get the 2XL. :)

i did this also. once you switch to free OS it will make you feel special. then, once you buy XL it will blow your mind.
