Hi,
I'm having real issues with the Midi out on my MPC 1000 JJOS v1.22 causing hanging notes on an Access Virus Synth. I also control the synth with an M-Audio Oxygen 8 and never have this problem, it's becoming VERY frustrating. I play live using this setup and MPC is always causing notes to hang on the synth, literally on every tune we play. Luckily the Access synth has a panic button to kill hanging notes but this is not ideal.
This has happened to me when using Akai OS as well as JJOS 1 & 2 (part of the reason why I did the OS upgrades) so I am thinking its not an OS thing. Does anyone know why the MPC is so bad at causing notes to hang on external midi equipment? Are other people seeing this issue? Or is it my MPC only that is having this issue? :(

I have seen feature request in JJOS for a panic button for hanging notes but this just coves the symptoms of the problem for me. Any help much appreciated!

Cheers

i use alot of outboard gear and i have never had this happen. it might be machine specific to you. my gear consist's of
triton, jv-1080, k2000r, proteus2000, virtuosso2000 all midi to the mpc. not once have i had notes that hang or get stuck. it always plays through smooth.

im on os1 4.99i

you have midi out of the virus to midi in of the mpc, and midi out of the mpc to midi in of the virus?

you might just be causing a MIDI feedback loop. could it be a local setting in the virus, or maybe (for instance) set the virus to receive on midi channel 2, set the mpc to transmit channel 2, and set virus to transmit on any channel other than 2. this way the virus will not just re-transmit the midi data back to the mpc, which then in turn re-transmits it back to the virus, and so on.

i dont have a virus, but I run into midi loop problems when i don't set up Cubase properly when using it with my MV and MPC

Thanks for the replies. No I don't feed the Virus midi back to the MPC, it is just one way. Starting to think that this is just specific to my machine which maybe more worrying. Will contact Akai support I reckon.
Another possibility is the way I have the midi setup in the MPC. LunaticBastard, if possible could you l;et me know how you have your midi setup on the MPC config page?

Is the synth directly connected to the mpc or using a a midi tru box or whatever?
If so have you tried connecting it straight to the MPC. Could you test it with a different midi cable aswell?

I hope the panic button will be back in JJ os soon. I use it on a regulary base with my 2kxl.

Panic button is useful and I will try this but the issue is with hanging notes happening all the time. I go direct from Midi out A of MPC to Access synth and I get notes hanging virtually all the time. I have changed midi cables but no better. Frustrating, I guess mpc not built as midi controller really... ???

So basically your synth is not getting a note off message.

Have you tried a different MIDI cable? This happens sometimes with my eps16+ and once I switch around some midi cables it goes away. Make sure the midi cable gives a snug connection so all pins can do what they need to do.

i too get some mad hang notes with my mpc1000 JJOS1 (im controlloing a synth with it), but usually only when i'm sneding a lot of information. still haven't worked out how toget round this. mainly just using the triple stop technique like a monster. can screw with live performance though

I've been having a few goofy problems with my Virus and MPC going through an 8x8... one issue was using Full Level and turning that off helped a lot. I am quite certain that my biggest problem is that I am getting a feedback loop though as the thru mode on my 8x8 isn't configured quite properly. Probably time to sell it and just direct in from the MPC to the virus.

Another one with hanging notes. It happens to me with external midi keyboard (m-audio axiom) connected to mpc1000 (jjos 3.12) and external e-mu sampler. The frustrating thing is that happens always. Is there a viable solution apart from panic button?

Ive done some research and I really dont know why the Mpc does this and Ive even contacted JJ ( or whoever answers the emails) and no solution. So Ive done my own research and found what causes it and a way to prevent it. First if your using a Fantom X or any other workstation like I am you have to cut off all transmit data (midi will transfer by default) for your keyboards internal settings. Second do not play any notes (pressing keys) while changing midi tracks, this will definetly cause your notes to be suspended. Here is the test: play any notes and while holding the notes change the midi channel then go back to the previous track and the notes you just played will now be suspended. Again I dont know why this happens but the best way to stop it is to go to that particular track and press STOP 3x. Unfortunately I havent encountered a way around this but knowing what causes it will help prevent it and save you a headache. Anyway I hope this helps and keeps your production moving.....peace.
