Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

hello i am thinking about getting an mpc 2000xl but im not too sure now, ive heard alot about other gear like the native instruments maschine and i have used to mpc 1000 in the past, but im just wondering if the 2000xl would be worth it. i heard that you can't preview samples without loading it into the memory. now i know it may not sound like a big deal but it's sort an issue because i use to be able to do that on the mpc 1000 and i dont want to have to keep loading and unloading sounds cause theres only like 32 mb in it. im just not sure if it will be great for my workflow. any suggestions. is there an os update that fixes that issue or do i just need to get something more new.

the XL requires a loading time period (a second or so depending on the size of the sample) regardless of if you are previewing or planning to keep it for the song.

essentially, you click "do it" on a sample while in the load screen.. and you can click either "play", "keep", or "dscard" ..

so yeah, you should get a program for the computer maybe if you require fast browsing and sample previewing. (fl studio has one of the best browsers I have seen)

I had this issue in mind when I got my 2000XL but honestly 90% of my drums are under 100KB and load in seconds then you just press the play button to preview it, now I prefer it because I know my sounds, I know which floppy disk has what sound and It works best. I know people like difference but I personally have 2-3 disks per drum section (kick, snare, hi hat) and narrowed my thousands of shit sounds down to all the ones i want.

I am not much of a loading up previously used sounds type of guy.. I have breaks I recorded onto the computer as well as CDs and records... so I find a sample to flip and look for the drums every time instead of using the same drums on several songs.

okay sometimes I am sampling from the same break.. but it will be getting EQed differently, chopped differently, etc.. which creates a new swing (not every start point will be in the same spot) and it will sound like different drums.

it's cool hearing about how other people work though because it gives ideas about adding things to your own workflow.
