Chopping techniques

as i wise man once said.....

'divide and conquer'

as others were saying, theres no right or wrong way to chop, although i find it easy to chop individual notes to the beat myself.

for example
if i have a 1 bar loop, in 4/4 time, ill usually chop quarter notes or 8th notes out of it to start out with.

to start simply make sure your loop loops correctly (however many bars it is)

then find the middle of that. play each side so they loop correctly to find the middle, now divide each side again.
now you should have 4 chops (if your original loop was 1 bar)

reapeat the process until you have the chops you want.

dont worry if they arent exactly the same length, you just want them close and musical at this point.

after you chop them up into seperate notes you can use the alternate loop mode or timestretch to get them all even.

the samples i choose are usually in 4/4 time so its laid out basically like kick/snare/kick/snare
on the 1-2-3-4

the 1 and 3 being kick, the 2 and 4 being snare.

i like to divide each side in half first so it will play kick- snare or (1 and 2) the second side will also play kick snare or (3 and 4)

then i divide these again so i have my kick on one chop, snare on the next, kick on the next and snare on the last, this will give you 4 quarter notes.

divide each chop evenly again to make 8th notes, and do it again to make 16th notes.

it all depends on the sample with how small you want to go, experiment around and youll get it.
