FYI...Akai Sys Works Just Fine Under Windows 7 Pro 64 bit or

Been gone for a good minute, but I've also built myself a new DAW comp. Working with a 10k rpm wd raptor for my C drive and have my other wd 7200 rpm drives as slaves.

16 gigs of ram and as stable as a muf**ka. The key to it all is the i5 2500k quad I'm using and the virtual pc/xp mode too.

It's the sh!tz!

Ak.sys just loves its new home. :D

Anyway, I'll follow up later tonight after work with more details.

The XP pro mode (virtual machine) trick has been known for some time.

What I what to know is what happened to the Aksy project (Open source version of Aksys) that was floating around the net for a short while. It like it just disappeared off the net like POOF! (Maybe Wakai had some thing to do with it.)

Now a nifty tutorial on setting up the XP mode in Win7 to run Aksys is in order. :wink:

sounds nice man. I'm about to look into fitting other stuff into my studio pc as well.

Nothing really special to pinpoint on. As long as you're working with the pro, ultimate, or enterprise versions, one should be good. Of course home versions don't have this feature.

If you have a legit version of win7, microsoft will allow you to download the virtual pc & xp mode from their site and the rest is history.

Once xp mode is installed, you can throw its icon on the desktop, click that joint & watch your pc do its transformantion thing.

Then you can load any program that worked under xp that you couldn't get to work on win7.

Yeah, I think I caught a big sale on hd's, memory, & a mobo/processor combo before their prices went up. Last time I checked on hd prices, they were almost double from what I paid nearly two or three months ago.

At least give microcenter a look, 'cause they still have the i5 & asus combo I snagged for a decent price.

I'm looking at maybe just maybe getting 1 of these to hold the os and apps on. Also since it's faster I can do music right from it as well. I will leave my physical hdd's in my tower for storage use and other stuff not involved with an active daw.

I just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. Been procrastinating.

That's due to that nasty flood they had in Thailand a month or so ago. Prices should drop back down in the next few months.

Nah, it has no affect on daw performance at all, at least from my experience. XP mode runs under or within Win 7, so it doesn't bother the way your daw carrys on with its normal tasks.

I take a lot of this would also depend on the components of your computer such as processor, chipset, hd & etc.

Alright dabs,

I took your advice and tried out XP mode last night. I loads plenty of older software just fine but Aksys throws a b1tchfit when I try to drag and drop samples.

My real XP install on the other side of my hard drive works flawlessly. (dual-boot XP/Win7 Ultimate)

:? any idea what's going on? ???

:? IDK, which version of the os are you running by chance...32 or 64bit? Like I mentioned before, it could be a matter of the system hardware and config you're using that makes a difference.

I'll check back tonight after work with more info and suggestions.

I would love to get AKsys working. Had it on my macbook pro 10.4 but it never worked right. Always just crashed and could never really back anything up. I don't know what happened as i beleieve i had it working correctly at one point.

Aksys throws a b1tchfit when I try to drag and drop samples.



This is essentially what would happen to me as well. I just couldnt get aksys to transfer samples for more than 10 seconds b4 it just crashed which made it basically worthless.

How else do you guys back up your MPC hard drive? If i hook up a USB hard drive can i somehow have the MPC copy/Back up all files on the hard drive to a blank usb drive for a back up? (sorry if this is a total noob question) I just never figured out how to do this.

I'm running 64-bit Win7 and I'm dual booted with an XP install that has all my recording tools on it.
The Win7 side is what I do all my web-surfing, sample digging and DJ'ing on.

I don't think the issue is RAM, 6 gigs should be plenty! I just hate restarting and booting into XP just to load a chopped sample.

I'm HIGHLY interested in an open source alternative at this point. I would even PAY for a useable up-datable flavor of AKSYS!

This is one of the things that differ between both of our systems. I don't have a dual boot setup, I'm using a dedicated hd & one os.

Plus I'm using an intel Z68 chipset with an intel 3.3 GHz sandy bridge quad core processor. BTW Mike, what processor and chipset are you using anyway?
