Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I was wondering how you get the notes to cut eachother off when you are playing your chops on the mpc 2000. No matter what I change it to the sounds keep overlapping eachother.

okay so in the parameters window.. where you change poly/mono/note off (which will have a pad cut itself off only which is cool)

push open window. It isn't a mute group.. it's only pad mutes. You can have a pad mute only 2 other pads. however, you can always do the blank pad mute trick where you assign a sample to an unused pad.. turn the volume down to zero on the mixer and use that to mute extra pads if needed.

Limitations are good though.

I think mute group function was introduced first on MPC-4000 (called key group), then MPC-2500 / 1000.
MPC-60, 3000, and 2000 series only have pad mutes, but don't have mute groups.

It sounded like a really bad news to me, when I was considering to get MPC-2000 (I got XL anyway, and I'm happy with it, after all the repair!), but I now realize that by chipping samples smaller, and use note off sometimes.
I haven't had situation where I really needed to use mute group, or at least I can use note off anyway.
I kind of feel that mute group is overused, even. (I think I've heard a lot of overly choppy MPC-based beats (not in a good way) on YouTube, and I think they are just using key group, so that they don't have to set up end points of each samples.)

I think the luck of mute group functions, make me chop samples smaller, and precisely. Remember, you can still set up pads to mute each other on older MPCs.

meh.. it's not that bad.. sometimes you want pad 1 to mute pad 2... but you do not want pad 2 muting pad 1...
