Also what is the chance of the screen frying out...I've heard most all of them do.

For $80, I would definitely buy it, if I were you! There are a lot of effects available as well. you can create simple waveforms too.

hmmm I've actually been looking at the Elektron Octatrak and it seems appealing...even though its $1260, I feel that if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything super heroes and prophets aside.

But here I go again lookin at gear porn

mpc 2000 xl

And I KNOW my 4k will hate me for saying this buuuuutt, I'd go with my 2kxlse2 if I had to choose only 1.

Nothing will sound perfectly like a sp12 or sp1200 except the original gear. You will only get sorta close but you'll be left wanting.

You can always create your dynamics with daw effects, mixing, processing and mastering.

It's all a journey.

Umm, I'm confused, I thought you are more concerned about sounds, not finger drumming... The video is cool (I thought you posted a wrong link at first!) but it has nothing to do with your initial post.

I'm really sorry for the confusion JVC. I guess I can just be a fickle cat sometimes.
I bought the mpc to start finger drumming and produce as well to accompany my turntable routines. I started really delving into the sound design aspects and got a little obsessed (dedicated). I guess I really am interested in both...you guys tips have probably saved me a boat load of cash and time with your insights.

The way I've been doing it is downloading sounds and slicing in recycle...doing minor tweaking and putting em straight in the MP via CF card. I guess that's why the sound may be lackluster because I'm not going straight from vinyl/analog in and lack of production skills on my part.

I just ask don't get annoyed by me...I have honest intentions

There's no right or wrong way to envision your beats. Just do what you do make it work and be happy.

If you don't have a certain level of dedication in something you'll never get anywhere with it.

maybe i'm getting a placebo effect on my XL. I just downloaded the "deadly drums" library to practice with and entertain myself. Also to have as a sort of sound reference.

Yeah i would def make it look like that but with lettering. Maybe a deep red classic akai logo too. That particular one is Mr. Pauli's who is a forum member. I'll do it like that but with some personal spins. First I gotta get more RAM 8outs and new buttons etc. since my XL needs to be cleaned and touched up (got her for 299$)
