what type of speaker are we talking about? studio monitors?

also, what is the price range? cause, that is a tough topic to suggest products... unless you know the rough budget.

I have a pair of KRK RP5G2's and to me they seem pretty good for my needs. I've compared the sound on them to my headphones (sennheiser hd 555), my altec lansing multimedia computer speakers w/sub woofer, and my 550w (2 speakers 1 sub) Sony stereo. They seem to be pretty accurate, to me at least. I know there are a lot of people that don't like them for whatever reasons.

is it even possible to get a pair larger than 4" at that price range? I mean you might be able to get one single KRK rp6 or something similar at that price... but what would you do with one speaker?

I think so, but that is my opinion .. they are simply better... but maybe for your rig in your location... the small ones would be fine. I mean, you dont need to blast larger speakers just cause you can.

I just went to went to the local pimp-my-ride store and bought two 10" woofers and two 6" 3way midrange and built two cabs for them out of wood. Costed around $240. Some say ghetto but thats how it is. I'm planning to get 8" woofers to build a workstation later...like June.

I'm very happy with those ones:

They're KRK 1st gen replicas and come pretty cheep.

Easy to find in EU, but I'm sure you can get something similar in the States too...

It looks like there are several manufacturers who bought the same OEM licence and are producing equal products: same thing happened with the Stanton ST150 and all the Super-OEM TTS which flood the market in the last couple of years.

I love bargain gear but the one thing I would never ever scrimp on is a good set of monitors.

Find out the size of your room, find a suitable size monitor. Read up on as many as you can while you're saving and then make an informed decision.

Putting a massive monitor in a small room right next to a wall is a silly idea. So read up on placement and the benefits of front and rear porting too.

Honestly, save up longer and invest in something that will last a lifetime. For the record I use Genelec 8020s. They're fantastic, I highly recommend them.

i use krk vxt4s... fking excellent in a small to medium environment...
love em~!
encourage a hifi system or 8' monitors to a/b to keep on the safe side of bumpin loud, or bangin shit out simply after a few beers... but the vxt's are excellente' imo
