Hi Everyone!

Just bought an Akai LPD8. When I connected it to my computer (Windows Vista 64 Bit) and started the LPD8-Editor, I couldn't get any sound out of it. I don't use the original USB-Cable, 'cause the with original one the pads even do not light up.
Anyway, when I start the Editor, he finds the LPD8, and the toggle-function works for my device, too, but as i said, when i hit the pads nothing happens.
I also tried to use the LPD8 with Reaper, but it says that the MIDI inputs and the MIDI outputs of the LPD8 could not be opened.

Any suggestions how i get started?
Thank you :)

you're not hearing any sounds cuz it's a midi controller and it's purpose is to interface with software aka trigger sounds in software like reaper...you need to create instrument track in reaper and use lpd8 to play back the sounds

the problem is that reaper has no access to the midi input nor output. I just tried the free sequenzer Macaw, but it's the same issue :/

I dont think he means physical midi in/out... he means the computer wont let him select the device..

check the akai website and make sure you downloaded the 64 bit drivers.

PLEASE HELP!!

I just bought a LPD8 and I desperately need some help. Two days and I haven't made one sound out of this thing. I've read tutorials, watched video tutes, slowly understanding more, figured out how to edit my presets in the provided software. I have preset 3, Ableton, loaded.

Then I did exactly what the youtube vids tell me to do to have my pad control all the stuff in ableton, like pitch and volume etc with the knobs. But I hit CC, click a knob or volume slider in Ableton, turn the knob on the pad and it just says (1/1) on the screen, next the the knob I'm trying to adjust, if I'm using the first knob, or (1/2) for the second knob. No settings are changed at all with the pad, just if I use the mouse.

As for programming sounds to the pads, I'm completely lost. Ultimately I want to program backing tracks/sounds over my acoustic drum structures, but I still have not heard a noise from this thing.

Any help is veeery much appreciated, I'm going back to the music store tomorrow to talk to the guy who sold it to me, he made it sound like a piece of pie to get started, and here I am two days later. I don't want to start a new thread, please can anyone help me out?

^ well it should be easy.. the guy who sold it to you is not wrong about that...

lets see, so in ableton in the options you made sure to select the proper controller and you made sure that it was enabled or active? (I am not an ableton user, or an LPD8 user.. so I am helping you blindly)

yes it is definetely enabled. I'm going to paste what I accidently posted in another LPD8 thread...

It is recognised, the yellow light flashes yellow at the top right if I hit a pad, and I have loaded the Ableton preset with the editor software that comes with the unit. I even went into the shop I bought it today from to ask for tips, but STUPIDLY didn't bring the damn controller with me so I have to wait till the shop re-opens after christmas. The guy is a MIDI expert and couldn't figure out why this is happening. He suggested maybe clicking the plugins tab down the left but that is all to do with the location of VST files.

I have the Ableton preset selected (3) but when I switch to MIDI and everything goes blue, the knobs won't adjust anything, they just simply say '1/8' if I'm using the K1 knob, or '1/8' if use the K8 knob. But thats all it does, it won't adjust anything at all while everything is blue. But its obviously connected, because when I turn the knob I do get a response, but its just telling me which knob I'm turning! It also adds what I'm trying to adjust to the left hand column as well under the MIDI mapping tab, so that is working too.

This is driving me insane!! I also tried using it with Reason 5 and with that it immedietely gives responses and sounds, so it surely can't be the unit. But I really wanted to use Ableton with this controller, none of this makes sense to me.

Please help, anyone!!

peace, and sorry again to dig up an old thread but the problems here seem to match the problems some had in this thread:

Is there perhaps something in Windows that I need to enable to get this up and running?
