LED LCD in S950

Maybe I should have tryed more extreme caps

is your s950 outputting the correct amperage as it is supposed to? (as suggested in the service manual?) also, I dont know what exactly would be done about that... what type of amperage difference are we talking about?

Well I don't have a service manual or an ammeter, just a regular cheap multimeter. Need to go get a real rms meter. But my screen looks the same as the op pictures. Brighter on the left than the right side is. So I don't think there is anything wrong with my 950, its a question of modifying the 950. I think. Difficult to tell without schematics

yeah you're right... hopefully you will get it sorted though... first step is getting that service manual. I dont think that would be hard to find but I could be wrong. Also, maybe you could look into the s900 service manual if you cant find the s950 one.

I'm going to sort out the faded backlight on my S950 and my options are; buy an EL Foil and maybe a new inverter (because my screen flickers now and again) or buy one of these LCD screens. The Noritake screen would be nice but it costs over £100

So, do we have a general consensus on the best LCD to buy? Which LCD screen draws the correct amount of current and has the right power requirements?
I'm worried about the issue that fathertime brought up.
Also, is it just plug and play once the lcd arrives?

will this work in the s900 too?

Hi sorry to dig up an old thread..

I recently bought the led screen replacements for my 900 & 950.

Obviously I decided to test on the 900 first as it worth less than the 950

Ok so...
The screen itself is one of the 16pin (2 for led power) and I had to solder the pins to the screen pcb as it was just mount holes on the pcb... This was easy.
I removed the inverter and used the original wires from the control pcb to the inverter to power the led screen.

However when I power up the 900 the display doesn't work!
The led lights up but the display doesn't register.

The 900 is also displaying all or none of the button LEDs depending on which way the screen cable is plugged in.
The drive also does strange things with the screen attached.

Any ideas?

If the 950 already has probs giving enough juice for the lcd... well the 900 is even older... maybe has a lower spec psu..... also the psu caps may no longer at full spec anyway.. If I was doing the mod, I'd recap the psu first of all while I already have the machine open.

Another note, never remove the inverter til you've tested the new lcd.. Would have been easier to stick the old screen back in to make sure nothing got fried after trying to boot with the new one.

Have you got the schematics , that would help troubleshoot why the drive goes nuts.... but if the lcd is sucking too much juice it's kind of to be expected.

Removing the inverter is as simple as screwing the thing back into the machine so it is easy to plug back in and the old screen works fine when doing this.
I did check the schematics of the 950 screen and that of the LCD (which matched)

As the 900 and 950 run off of the same inverter I should think that the LCD (that runs at the same v) would be fine.

There is a chance that the screen display cable is of a slightly different order to the 950 and that could explain the muck up, however... The 950 is my main sampler and I was only willing to use the 900 as a test unit, after the problems I am reluctant to try the 950
I think my ambition for the LCD will be on hold for now.

Ps... The jumper settings were spot on mate

Also all caps were changed 4 months ago when I got the 900 faulty

How about a noritake then for the 950.. actually I'd do that either way, surely the 950 deserves it
I put one into an emax.. beautiful displays.

Do you use an s3000, or was that sold.. I kept my 3200 for snare duties. Yet to find a sampler with the same punch, esp. when layered. but other than that the 1100 trumps it.

And yes I still use the 3k

Got the emax noritake for around 60-70€ from mouser ... if your order total is over something like 100 the postage and duty are free too.

If anyone knows why this didn't work I would really appreciate knowing
