Is it possible to purge all of the samples not used in a sequence? You can easily purge the samples not used in programs but if you are using large programs this can get used up quickly.

It would be fantastic to be able to purge all of the samples that haven't been triggered in a sequence. Thoughts?

I requested this a while ago maybe I should try requesting it again. I use several large programs that automatically load when I turn on my 2500, they have my favorite drum sounds, instruments and sound fx so that I can quickly go through sounds and laydown a basic beat and get some ideas going without having to load sounds individually. I use packs so it saves and loads faster than if it wasn't packed but once I'm done getting a basic idea down and I have no need for all the other sounds it's a pain to purge them all. I always have to unpack my programs (one at a time so there aren't so many samples to go through), I create a new program with the sounds I'm keeping, then I go back and delete the packs and then save only the samples that were used in my project. If I record notes on tracks were I was using the packed samples and not the samples in the new program I have to transpose the notes so that they correspond to the correct sounds in the new program (I do this before I delete my packs).

I wouldn't have to do this if we had an option when we're purging to choose between purging only samples that are not assigned to pads in programs (the way it is now) and another option to purge all samples, even those assigned to pads (obviously unassigning them from the corresponding pads) that are not being triggered by notes; maybe you could choose between purging from current or all programs. I'm not sure if this is the same thing your talking about bpert but it sounds similar to my situation. It takes a good amount of time to create new programs with the samples your keeping (possibly having to transpose recorded notes) and then delete the programs, it takes even longer going pad by pad, program by program unassigning unused samples and then purging.

There has to be a faster way all this. This is exactly the kind of feature or workflow enhancement that I wish (and kind of expect) JJ would add to the os, I think there is still some room for improvement in this department. And if this isn't what you meant bpert, my bad, I totally jacked your thread... but I still want this feature :D

You are on the right track. The function should be called "purge unused samples from sequence". And it would do exactly what you said. It would unassign samples in programs that were not used in any of the sequences and purge them from memory.

I would be happy if this is the only function ever added. It would speed up my workflow immensely!!

Yeah this is my biggest time-waster by far. I requested it again, we'll see what happens.

This would be great to have in addition to the purging of unused samples, this way you could quickly make a program out of all the samples that are actually being used.

Both would be great although I'd settle for either... Right now I make a copy of the program and delete all of the samples I'm not using when I need more space. It's tedious.
