You can automate the channel by either pencilling in your sweeps on the automation curve if you know the cutoff rate and length in advance.
easier to do is to set the channel from READ to LATCH or WRITE. Play the song, adjust ANY (be careful!) parameters. When you are done, set the channel back to READ (or you will continue to overwrite).
At this point, you can check the track automation view and select the cutoof (which is what I'm assuming you want to do). The curve you have written should come up on screen ont hat channel. You can then edit the anchor points if you wish.
Use Logic's LPF as its a piece of piss you can't **** it up.
